Default WordPress theme is not something that appeals to your requirements or senses. You can change the default Twenty Eleven theme to a fast loading and visually attractive theme. Your readers are going to disapprove your blog if it doesn’t have both speed and appearance. You can login to your C panel and select the one you find most suitable. If you want to opt for paid themes, choose premium themes.

2. Create different pages
Dividing your whole site into different categories should be the next thing on your list. Create pages that are important to your blog purpose like About us, Contact, Our expertise, Support, FAQs, Privacy Policy, etc. Also create your skills-specific categories. This approach will make your website management easy.

3. Incorporate the logo
Logo gives your blog a unique identity and recognizable personality. Create an elegant Logo for your Blog & incorporate it in Header. This will enhance the beauty if your blog. Choose great design supported with cool colors.

4. Change the Permalink Structure
Permalink structure makes or breaks your SEO friendliness. Default permalink that comes immediately after installation looks like xyz.com/?p=111. This is not easily recognized by search engine and won’t give you SEO benefits.

Optimize the permalink structure by logging into Wordpress dashboard. Go to settings, choose the Custom Structure and add the title to change the structure.

5. Profile Setup
If you are the owner of the blog, you would like to spread a word about yourself. Add your significant details about your profile in form of Author. Do it at the end of every blog page. Every blogger had their ‘About me’ section as it creates a trust value for all your readers and fans.

6. Subscription Box and social feed
Wouldn’t you want your readers to subscribe to your blogs? After all, your website is nothing without pretty good number of subscribers. Design a good looking subscription box that captures more and more readers. Your subscription box must contain options for social sharing. Facebook page, Twitter page, Google plus, RSS are some of the essentials of Subscription box.

7. Eliminate too many Advertisements
Being a very goods blogger, you must invest your efforts in creating remarkable blog posts. Money must come later in the process. So if you are starter, avoid employing too many advertisements on your blog. Don’t impoverish your Wordpress blog quality by inviting innumerable ad displays. This worsens web speed and results into discouragement for your audience.

8. A heroic SEO plugin
SEO is an important part of any website, a hero we must say. To ensure that your blog posts are getting maximum results, you need to optimize them using an SEO plugin. You may not get instant results when it comes to boosting SEO properties. However, they do work its way as you along the process of writing original blog posts.

9. Improve Wordpress security
Knowing that hackers are always prepared to assault your temple of information, it would be wise to protect your goods by creating safety walls. Instead of losing your private data, make sure you have a strong back up plan. Take a security measure of installing backup plugin. Also ensure the safety of your Wordpress back end admin area, which is most crucial.

10. Caching is must
Caching is directly connected to speed of your website. There are several cache plugins that help reduce the load on your server and improve your website speed. It works both ways: it makes your website SEO friendly and enables it to endure heavy site-load scenario.

These power cache plugins are: W3 total cache and W3 super cache.

These days there are default plug-ins are being installed during wordpress set-up. Should one really bother about those plug-ins like akismet? The only problem is that there are regular updates in those plug-ins and one has to manually update them all the time, we can't leave them to auto-upgrade due to security and stability reasons.
