The Internet Technology seems to be always at its finest, that at times, it can be quite scary. What will happen to the Internet Technology? Is there an end to it? Or will it further lift our lives? Can anyone really stop it from going all the way up? If so, then what abilities would those people need to beat the Internet Technology? This new age technology may be unbeatable, but there are people who actually try to defer these using their most complex thinking. These people are known as “hackers†or those that try to get secured information for whatever purpose it may serve, from unwilling and oftentimes unaware people. Here are some more information about hackers and some of their stories.
Hacker, Defined
In simple terms, a hacker is a person who seeks and exposes weaknesses in a computer system or an entire computer network. These hackers, through the years have somewhat various reasons for doing so. Some of their reasons are:
1. For profit
2. As a protest
3. To challenge the security
Over the years, it has been believed that these people have also built their own underground groups continuously exchanging ideas and new techniques.
I got in! Some of the famous hacks of all times:
1. In the year 1990, a teenager named Kevin Poulsen hacked the phone lines of the Kiss FM radio station in Los Angeles to become the 102nd winning caller on the station’s “Win a Porsche By Friday†contest. Aside from this, he also allegedly used his “hacking skills†break into the Army and FBI computers.
2. Jonathan James is known as one of the most famous hackers of all time. In the year 1999, he broke into military computers at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and wiretapped thousands of confidential messages, log-in information, and a $1.7 million worth of software which controlled the living environment on the International Space Station. This major issue eventually led the NASA to shutdown their network for not less than three weeks which eventually cost them thousands of dollars to upgrade scurity.
3. Canadian-born Michael Calce, then aged 15, created the Project Rivolta. This “project†took down the very famous search engine- Yahoo. He was not content, however, and he moved on to to attack the servers of CNN, eBay, Dell, and Amazon as well.
4. Adrian Lamo is known for breaking into the servers of hugely popular companies such as the New York Times. He was known as “the homeless hacker†and he accessed the New York Times database in the year 2002, thereby adding himself to the list of Op-Ed writers.
5. In the year 2008, a group called “Anonymous†came up with the Project Chanology, which was an an online protest against the Church of Scientology.
So these are some of the famous hacker stories. If not caught, they may eventually lead to the demise of the Internet. It may seem to be an endless argument, as everybody will have their own opinions on this. But then again, they say that nothing lasts forever, right? If so, then the Internet Technology sensation may also be up to an end. Until that day, though, why not continue enjoying it while it's here?
