How Web Design Companies Charge for Web Design and Development Projects? - Image 1

Every company - big or small, needs to have a solid presence in the internet in today’s world. So having a website has become mandatory for both local and international companies. Under this circumstances, web development has flourished as a new sector with great prospect and potential.

Building a website was quite simple in the early days of the internet. In the 90’s era and even at the beginning of 2000s, simple HTML and CSS were enough to build a working website. But that is not true anymore. The web has become more interactive and the devices that are used to access the site now have various types and screen sizes (i.e. desktop, laptop, smartphone).

Designing and development of a site essentially require the site to be responsive (so that the pages can be properly displayed according to device sizes). JavaScript and interactivity has become more common. New CSS frameworks like Bootstrap has gained popularity. JavaScript frameworks like Angular JS is being used to make websites appear like web applications.

So, while developing and designing a project, a web development company has to do a considerable amount of work than usual in the past. Apart from these, content has an ever increasing importance. This too, is often handled by a web development company.

Thus while charging for web design and development project, a number of different aspects are needed to be considered. For example: How much interactivity should the site contain? Will the site be connected with a database in the backend? Does the site requires any CMS? Should the site be developed using frameworks like React JS or Angular JS? And the page number and page contents are also among important things to be considered.

The duration required to build a site is often flexible as a site won’t be developed by a person alone. But of course complex sites will take significantly longer time. The testing phase also requires some time before the final product is delivered. So, really it is not possible to mention the accurate time required to build a complete website. It completely depends on the scale and complexity of the project and also on the size of the development team.

The portfolio of the web design company plays a key role in determining how much it can charge for a certain project. If it is a new company with a less diverse portfolio, initially their rate should be lower. But a successful company working for big sites will certainly charge more even for comparatively smaller project. It is quality that matters. A development company with bright track record can obviously charge more than a new development company. In short, the rate varies not only depending on how complex the task is, but also on the profile and portfolio of the company.

In the end, it should be clear that how much a company charges for web development and design depends on several factors and there are no rigid rules. Web development is a diverse landscape and newer technologies often come and go. A good track record and updated workforce will certainly enable a company to charge more. On the other hand, a newer company will start from a low rate until it gains reputation.
