Is Search Engine Optimization Dead

In the recent past one of the biggest debates that has raged in the world of the Internet is the death of search engine optimization. Interestingly, experts seem to be divided on the opinions they have. While some people state that search engine optimization is indeed dead, others swear by the fact that it can never ever die!

Why are people talking about the demise of SEO?

In the past, many a change in the industry has sparked off the debate on the relevance or passing of search engine optimization. Some of the major ones are:

- Updates by Google such as Florida, Panda and Penguin,

- Web designers stating that SEO has only shifted focus on marketing rather than design,

- Companies also talk about the death of SEO because quite a few of them have not been able to harness the results of good search engine optimization.

There are many others talk about the demise of SEO for various reasons.

Is this fact or fiction?

Consider the fact that people all over the world use search engines of various kinds to look for:

Information,

Products,

Availability of services,

Make comparisons for their purchase and

Use the Internet or search engines in many different manners.

If a company has a website, then the only way that it can earn more money and develop greater customer base is by figuring in the search results. And as long as it practices great search engine optimization activities, it will certainly show up with high visibility. So, SEO will probably die only if search engine usage itself dies.

The age of information

There is no doubt whatsoever that we are living in an age of information today. People crunch through massive amounts of Internet traffic and data of all kinds in order to make even simple decisions in daily lives.

Statistics reveal that Internet traffic is mostly comprised of online searches at 50%. Social media comprises Internet traffic at 25%. Therefore, using the Internet for seeking out information is something that is done on massive scales.

Using search engine optimization effectively

Probably one of the biggest reasons why people talk about the death of search engine optimization is because they may not be aware of or are not willing to use it effectively.

For instance http://www.seo-sydney.net says that most companies who are dissatisfied with professional SEO services have probably limited themselves to simply buying Adwords. This is an extremely small aspect of search engine optimization and is not likely to result in sweeping improvements in visibility.

Take the example of a social media specialist stating that going social is the only way that a business organization can enjoy success. However, there is no getting away from the fact that social media marketing is a crowded and complex exercise. A business organization should therefore pay attention to quite a few aspects in order to make a successful presence for itself on social media platforms.

It is interesting indeed to follow the debate on whether search engine optimization is dead. However, a business organization cannot afford to ignore its visibility in search engine results. Therefore, it must pay attention to proper SEO activities.
