HDMI cable’s channel large amounts of uncompressed audio and video files through a single interface. Many internal conductors run audio visual control and communication files and control along a single cable. It is possible to connect two devices with HDMI cables as long as they have the same HDMI ports. These devices may include TV, computers, video game platforms, Blu Ray players and projectors.

Primary Function of HDMI Cables

Through HDMI technology, it is possible to carry data for processing from a single cable. Connecting your satellite decoder, video game systems or Blu Ray players to your home theatre receiver may only include only three cables. Another cable will be connected from the receiver to your projector or television. HDMI also makes it easier to allow channelling of online data from source to source through Ethernet connection. This is very functional when it comes to online applications on modern displays and also for facilitating advanced gaming and special feature through Blu Ray players.

Analog Cables and High Definition Copy Protection (HDCP)

HDCP requires a digital identification from source devices to the projector or TV within a system connected by HDMI. The security verification relays message from these devices that they are operating within the HDCP framework. Because of HDCP, manufacturers of computer hardware usually limit the resolution to standard definition when employing analog connector without concerning the capabilities of cables. VGA cables and component video cables are capable of carrying high-definition videos with resolution that can be superior with HDMI but do not integrate audio or HDCP. VGA jacks and component video are not usually present on modern audio visual devices to lessen the cost of production with the rise of HDMI receivers and televisions. S-video cabling and basic analog composite cannot handle the required bandwidth for high-def video, and no analog cables can simultaneously carry audio. The predecessors of HDMI, the DVI cables can carry digital video but not audio.

Price Range of HDMI Cables

There are hundreds of manufacturers of cables, each offering various price range. Basically, HDMI operates through an electronic signal. Because the data is digital, major breaks and defects in the cable may only lead to reduced quality. There are also cases in which long HDMI cable run more than 50 feet could lead to fluctuating performance, but these can be resolved by employing repeaters. These repeaters can regenerate the HDMI signal to avoid losses when you are using the cables for longer periods of time. These devices usually allocate the maximum performance to accommodate functionality, which still depends on the capacity of the repeater. It is very crucial in choosing HDMI to select enough gauges for the distance that the cable must run through. Beyond these basic electrical needs, the price of the cable can be influenced by the material component, percentage content of silver on internal wires, marketing expenses, etc.

Command and Control

Consumer Electronics Control or CEC sends a continuous stream of communications through all the devices that support the feature. Because you may want to view videos even without the surround system on, the CEC will also pass through the audio and video to be accessible to your display monitor without actually activating your receiver.
