When you talk about domains and hosting, the inevitable question is: Is the cheapest hostmaster the best option? However, there are a number of factors involved when you try to answer this question. So, we will try to navigate all these factors to reach a satisfactory answer to this question.
The first factor is you - the user. Any blog or website is started for a reason. The reason could be to make a name for the owner of that blog/website in the World Wide Web. It could serve as a platform to air out his or her grievances with certain issues in his or her country of residence. It could also serve as an e-commerce platform to launch and sell products like laptops and mobile phones, for instance. Hence, it becomes very important for the user to decide what they want to achieve from their blog or website.
The second factor is related to investment. Once the user has decided what he or she wants to use the blog/website for, the next question is the amount he or she is willing to spend. Does the user want to make no investment at all? Does the user want to make a small amount of investment to develop the website or blog? Does the user want to spend big initially and outshine the competition?
The answers to the above two questions are the primary determining factors in choosing a hostmaster. But what about the actual service itself? Does that play no role in the choice? The answer to the second question is No. You see, every website or blog owner needs certain services to get rolling. Let us look at these services.
  • Domain name - When it comes to the domain name, you have two options. You can either buy a unique domain name or you can opt for a free to use sub domain. A unique domain name is www.abc.com and a free to use sub domain is www.abc.com/xyz.com or xyz.abc.com. As you can see, the first option will belong solely to you, whereas in the second option, you have to exist along with the primary domain. All sub domains are free of cost whereas unique domains are paid services that have to be renewed annually.

  • Hosting service - There are three types of hosting services available. The first type is the dedicated hosting service. Under this service, the hostmaster gives you an exclusive server space and higher bandwidth for your usage. The second type is virtual private service. Under this option, you are given a certain amount of space and bandwidth on an existing sever. The third type is shared hosting service. In this service, you share resources with other users. You have a small amount of server space and bandwidth to use. The cost of these hosting services decreases exponentially with dedicated the most expensive and shared the least expensive.

So coming back to our primary question, is the cheapest hostmaster the best option (for example the Danish provider hostmaster UnoEuro) ? Well, the answer varies based on the situation. If you are a startup or a small business, then yes this is your best option. However, on the other hand, if you are a large company wanting to establish their online presence, then you should steer clear of this option and go for a paid hostmaster.
Which is the hosting option you use? Do you find the free service or the paid service better? Leave your comments and tell us.
