These days, the world revolves around instant connectivity, and the good old days of snail mail seems to have vanished. How do we keep up?

Your grandchild or daughter is going away to another country, for further studies,
and sheâs your favorite. What now?!

Youâre going to miss her company and wonât be able to see how she is doing.
You have no idea where she is staying either, but she has given you her email address, and told you âGrandma, we still can Skype each other!!!â

But what is Skype, you ask.

Skype is one of many popular software that can be found on the internet, and saved on your computer to assist you with keeping in touch with your friends, through video and voice calls, sending and receiving instant messages, and lots more.
Now, let us walk you through the basic functions of Skype with the following tips, and you should be able to start Skype-ing!

NOTE: For this tutorial, we will be covering Skype usage on a personal computer/laptop.

1. I DONâT HAVE SKYPE!

Open up your favourite web browser*
(Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox),
and type âwww.skype.comâ in the navigation toolbar,

2. DOWNLOAD* AND GET SKYPE!

At the top, you will see a toolbar like below

*Download is a term used to describe the process of saving a file from the internet.
Click on âSave Fileâ when this window pops up:

3. HOW TO INSTALL SKYPE.

Select your language (1) using the drop down menu as shown in the picture below.
Continue to the next stage by clicking on âI Agree â Nextâ (2).

The next step involves a premium feature of Skype, which lets you call landlines.
However, this feature requires you to buy Skype credits, or simply, to pay to use.

For now, we shall focus on the basic features, thus the recommendation to uncheck the box. â
The next screen is an advertisement.

Skype will now be installed.

4. START CREATING YOUR ACCOUNT

Look for the shortcut on your desktop or Start Menu to open the program:

5. EXPLORING SKYPE

Skype brings you to the home screen when you have logged on.

When you first sign in, your status is ONLINE.
Here, you can change your status to the various options available.

There are 2 tabs in the home screen, âContactsâ and âRecentâ.

6. ADDING A CONTACT

Click on the logo with the plus sign (below).

Click on the selected (blue) contact, go to the message box,
