Designing for the Wrong Audience? You Can Fix It This Way - Image 1

There are those people who are always sharing their design work online, especially on social networks asking for criticism from other web designers. It is not a bad idea to do this, but could be a very serious symptom of a huge problem where you are always designing for the wrong clientele. Each one of us loves doing something we like. We enjoy receiving some praise from other good designers in the form of an educated opinion that in most cases affirms something.

What your only goal is

However, if this is the only goal you have and you are not giving the opinion of your clients any chance, your design job will definitely suffer. Whatever you do will not satisfy your customers and you will see them leaving to other designs as you watch. The important thing is that your occupation has to work the way your customers want, which is to primarily speak and cater to their audience. You must remember it is clients who are paying and not designers. Unless your employer is a designer, the criticism and opinions of fellow designers is definitely not required. You must learn to avoid designing for the wrong audience right from the beginning.

Communicate

To make the most of the right target audience begins even before you have decided to touch the computer or both pen and paper. It starts by communicating with the client to receive complete and clear, creative summary, and guidelines of what he or she is looking for. This is also the place to ask yourself the goals you have for the project, the demographic you want the work to talk to, the main competition and exactly what will set your work apart from them. You also need to define what successful outcome is in this project. Once you have all this information figured out, you will find it easier to look and analyze your work to ensure it fits with the goals of your clients.

Remain aligned

We all have the drive to try new things and techniques or create something innovative. It is how we improve and grow and you should not stifle this urge. You need to know whether you are doing it for yourself or because it fits your clientâs audience well. If the answer is that you are doing it for both, you are on the right track, but if it is not, you might want to evaluate. It is possible to enjoy breakthroughs on basically all projects once you have realized you are trying to enforce your concepts and ideas on a place where they do not belong. It is very frustrating to try to make something work only to realize the right thing has always been around.

Avoid being overworked

You must remember a good design is always honest and hardly makes a product what it is not, such as more valuable, powerful or innovative. There is no active effort to manipulate and lie to a consumer by giving certain promises hard to keep. A good design communicates the truth about the product or service it represents. You should not worry about impressing anyone if you want the work of your client to start impressing the audience it is trying to reach.
