Additive Manufacture is the other name of 3D printing. It is a process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape or size from a digital model. Additive manufacture basically consist of different methods. Every method is unique and has its own advantages and disadvantages.

The Basics

The ‘Computer Aided Design’(CAD) must be used for the files which are usually in STL format in order to print from a 3D printer. There are many different softwares available online and in the market which can be used to create any image or file in the 3D format. The existing products can also be scanned in three dimensions, but this method is quite limited.

The Process

The 3D software initially divides this digital model into thousands of wafer slices which are very thin. These wafer slices are eventually sent to the printer one-by-one. The segments of the slices are made and the material is then laid exactly on it, one at the top of the other and vice versa. And in this way, an amazing 3D product is created.

Support Material

While using a 3D printer, whenever there is an overhang with any part of the material or there is a gap between the moving parts, a support is required as it is not possible to print onto thin air. But once the printing is done and 3D product is formed, the support material is removed from the printer. The removal of the support material may be done in many different ways, but the most commonly used are the following methods:

Washing out the support material

Dissolving the material

Breaking it and then taking it out

Hooving away

Nylon 3D Printer

Apart from the normal 3D printer, there is also a Nylon printer which works in a slightly different way. It works by utilizing powdered Nylon and many other lasers to melt the material in the needed place. This powder not only acts as the build, but is also used as support material and can be used again. It is more ideal and suitable for bigger models as the powder costs cheaper and is stronger too, especially if the models are hollow.

The Increasing Popularity

The trend of making 3D models and the use of 3D printers is becoming very common these days. Almost all the construction companies throughout the world use these facilities in order to attract their costumers by showing them a 3D demo of what the actual construction would look like. This also helps them in better construction and decreases the chances of the making big mistakes while construction.

Therefore, it can be concluded that 3D printing is one of the most beneficial inventions of this technological era especially for business companies.
