Several dating apps have been using proximity to connect potential dates, here is a new free app that does the same for professional networking. OpenApp is a free iOS app enables users to open up to business and professional networking. The intent is to take the awkwardness out of networking and make targeted connections are events, conferences and other venues. Open App uses the latest in Bluetooth LE and iBeacon technology on the iOS platform. The nifty apps features include:

1. Login using their LinkedIn credentials

2. Once logged in users broadcast their name and professional summary to other logged in users in a 50 to 100 feet proximity.

3. App enables users scan interesting people / connections, once you find someone interesting you can

a) bookmark to reach out later

b) leave a message

c) instantly initiate chat

4. Uses Bluetooth LE protocol and hence does not drain battery life

5. Does not need wifi or mobile connectivity, works in closed spaces

6. Uses Apple’s multi-peer connectivity to enable instant chat

The app lets users to discover people, leads and connections for sales calls, hiring or plain networking. Users can instantly chat or leave a message or just bookmark interesting people to connect with later. As of OS X v10.9 and iOS 6, Mac and iOS devices can also function as Bluetooth low energy peripherals, serving data to other devices, including other Mac and iOS devices. The app basically turns your iphone into a beacon. This is a new and interesting take in the beacon application space.
