Digital Marketing: Using Social Media - Image 1

Today I am looking at Digital Marketing Via Social Media I have been speaking to Mark Tuchscherer the MD of a Digital Marketing firm based in Chicago called Geek Chicago. he has been filling me in on basics of how social media is so integral these days and just what it can do for the common internet business owner.

In order to compete in today’s market it is essential that you make the most of digital marketing. Marketing your product online opens you up to consumers worldwide; it allows you to reach more people than you could locally. Though perhaps the most important part of online marketing is over looked by many, and that interaction, consumers are no longer just consumers in today’s market. Anyone interested in a product will first look it up online, find out all they can about it. Your consumers are also your reviewers. Your online presences indicates how well liked and used your product is. This also allows you to interact with consumers in a meaningful way you could not before.

Utilization of Social Media

Utilization of social media is one of the best ways to make use of this unique online relationship between yourself and the consumer. This can be a advantageous relationship between you and the consumer in several ways. It allows you to respond to feedback, and generate good will with those that like or are considering your product. By keeping an up to date, Facebook or Twitter, and making sure the updates happen consistently and address concerns of your customers it shows you are listening to them and will make them more likely to turn in the future.

Digital Word of Mouth

This also helps create almost a free word of mouth marketing campaign. As your updates get shared, Liked, Reblogged, Retweeted, and spread by just being told about. This is basically free marketing why not capitalize on it? Of course the flip side of this is any bad or negative experience will be spread just as virally. It is tempting to try and control any negative feedback or posts, however the more you try to stop these things the worse it will become. This is the internet and there will always be people who complain to complain and aren’t happy. Real customers and most of the internet savvy are clever enough to spot these kinds of post, to know when someone is trolling or real. They also know when they are being restricted, and the net is all about freedom, any sort of limitation on posts aside from clearly inappropriate comments will cause backlash.

Limited Time Promotions

This is also a good way to offer limited time promotions, via the subscribers on the various social media used. This can be over text, twitter, Facebook, whatever to give out digital coupons and special deals. That way not only is customers rewarded with small perks for keeping up with you as well as updates and feedback. This can help generate even more word of mouth and good will than anything mentioned above. People love a deal and there is really no production cost to this since there is no actual physical distribution.

By using social media in these ways, to interact with your customers, generate good will and spread via word of mouth and reviews, as well as promotional discounts for subscribers. You can harness the power of social media to work for you and see a high increase to your web presence. The information and reviews are already out there, why not use them to your benefit? With digital marketing the customer is also your primary marketing tool, don’t fall behind in digital dust, let the internet work for you, put the power of social media on your side and spread your message at the same time.
