Rural satellite broadband customers are getting ready to have access to a brand new Tooway package from satellite internet provider Eutelsat.
The company are in the process of launching a new service that will see download speeds of up to 20Mbps and unlimited off peak usage limits.
With packages starting at £35 per month, including equipment rental, Eutelsat are confident that previously deprived rural areas of the UK will now be able to consume regular amounts of data as they browse the web.
With research showing that 3.3m UK premises are not in a suitable location for a regular internet connection, these new Tooway packages are going to be the digital lifeline that customers have been waiting patiently for.
For those keeping a tight hold of their purse strings then Eutelsat provide their S 2Mbps service, with 1Mbps upload for £20 â equipment rental is around £6 per month.
The real big news is regarding the M, L and XL bundles that all deliver 20Mbps download and 6Mbps upload. These are subject to consumption levels, from 10GB for the £30 M profile and 30GB for the £50 XL package. An additional Absolute choice is available for £75 per month. Also worth noting is that the L and XL packages include unlimited off-peak consumption between 11pm and 7am UK time.
All services operate via the same 77cm satellite dish and modem provided by ViaSat and adds a recommended £6 a month to the price.
Eutelsat also state that this new service is triple-play ready, has 50Gbps worth of capacity and is working alongside various distributors and dealers to get the packages out into the market.
However, latency is still an issue with satellite broadband and as yet there isnât technology available that overcomes this problem. The delay in internet traffic as it travels up and down to Eutelsatâs Hotbird 6 satellite is, even at the speed of light, something that customers will still have to deal with. But without the option of regular cable or fibre optic broadband hook ups, rural communities are at least going to have the same connectivity that city dwelling types receive.
