We all set resolutions for ourselves at the start of a new year, but what about our jobs? If you’ve never set a resolution for your work, now is a good time to start. By this time next year, your commitment today could have steered your brand into a whole new direction.

You’ve got to be more specific though than, Be punctual or Improve teamwork. Business.com suggested some resolutions that will help focus your efforts and allow you to make more of a difference at work this year.

I will add real value to my content

Bill Gates is well known for this short quote: Content is king. I couldn’t have said it better myself. However, marketers who are tasked with creating large amounts of content on schedule often lose sight of this fact. They end up with quantity, rather than quality. That’s why a resolution to re-commit to offering customers real value rather than key word-heavy advertising blurbs could really change the way you do business.

After all, Business.com experts reminded us, it’s content that people notice and share. It’s content that search engines discover and rank. . . . It’s content that you use to email your prospect lists. And these days, it’s content that develops your brand and ultimately builds your business.

I will optimize my website for 2015

If you haven’t updated your website’s design in a few years, it’s time to think about doing an overhaul. Chances are, your site is loaded with broken links, pages devoid of SEO, a blog only vaguely connected with the site, design that isn’t optimized for mobile devices, images that don’t load or are too large, and navigation that is far from user friendly. Don’t get overwhelmed if it seems like too much to take on. Break it down into smaller bites by answering these questions posed by Business.com:

-· Has your website been coded for search engines?
-· Is your website mobile responsive?
-· Is your blog seamlessly integrated to your site?
-· Does your site use the latest in coding technology?
-· Is your site conversion focused? Or in other words, are visitors inspired to take action?

Make a list of the questions you said no to and start working down the list through the year, one by one.

Choose and use a better marketing automation platform. Whether your marketing is already automated or it’s a field you have yet to explore, don’t get complacent. Marketing automation tools like Marketo, Hubspot, and Infusionsoft make automating emails and work flow easy and could free up hours of your time. Just be sure the one you’re using is the best one for your business. Even if you’ve had the same one for a while and are happy with its performance, try a trial run of its competitors once in a while. Maybe there’s something you don’t know you’re missing.
