Top 3 Project Management Software that Integrates with Outlook - Image 1

Project management software allows individuals and businesses of all kinds to collaborate with team members via instant messaging software, file sharing tools, and group-accessible reference materials. Project management software generally consists of a time tracking system, an events calendar, a forum or chat software, and a list of goals that the team is working towards. Project management software brings team management into the 21st Century by allowing team members to participate in group endeavors from anywhere in the world and see what other team members are doing in real-time.

Project management software can be localized to a specific server or intranet or it can be browser-based and hosted on cloud-based servers, where team members can access the most up-to-date information about projects they are participating in at any time. Project management software is often utilized by both small and large companies, financial and educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations to consolidate information among many individuals and track performance in real-time for better efficiency and, ultimately, better success.

While project management software comes in many different shapes and sizes, most people want a project management system that can be integrated with their existing technologies. One of the biggest features companies look for in a project management system is a compatibility with their existing email clients, such as Outlook. To illustrate the effectiveness of project management software in respect to integration with existing programs, we have assembled the following list of the top 3 project management systems that can be integrated with Outlook.

SharePoint Enterprise 2010

SharePoint Enterprise 2010 is a project management software provided by Microsoft that can be locally installed on an Intranet or hosted on a cloud-based server for more open-ended collaboration among participants. SharePoint Enterprise 2010 is ideal for groups who need to develop flow charts and graphs as well as analyze group-generated data. The software allows for task delegation as well as the addition of reference materials and can be integrated with Outlook, in addition to other Microsoft products, such as InfoPath, Project, Visio, and OneNote.

Inloox

Inloox is a very popular, browser-based project planning software that allows collaborators to share resources, files, and tasks with each other by using the platform’s built-in modules. Inloox features a time-tracking mechanism that shows team members which tasks they are spending the most amount of time on and why, as well as a budget tracker that displays the project’s overall budget requirements in addition to how that budget is being spent. The platform allows groups to share documents and common resources, such as reference materials, and can be integrated with Outlook for communication and further collaboration. While team members can access project tasks and see what other team members are up to, the platform also features a mechanism that allows for scheduling of specific tasks to specific individuals.

Microsoft Project

Microsoft Project is another project management tool provided by Microsoft that can be used in the form of an Outlook add-on. This add-on allows team members to update their tasks on the Microsoft Project Web Access server from within Outlook. New task updates are marked on the user’s calendar, allowing them to track their progress.

The sole purpose of the tool is to save time by automating the process. Segregate your tasks - Do, plan, delegate and eliminate based on urgency, priority and importance. Prateek, for basic necessities, I use Outlook's feature which can be used for project management. Create tasks and to-do lists, have it appear on your calendar and have alerts and so on. But yes, as mentioned the plugins do really pave a smoother workflow.

Hey Prateek, I really appreciate the list of software apps that you shared. In fact, I had used few other project management tools such as Replicon project time management software that did pretty well for our business.

Using Replicon online tool has been very easy as it was quickly implemented and was a hassle free experience overall. With its simple calendar view interface and great feasibility as well as robust support, I really liked this app. Also, the best part of this app was that it could be accessed from anywhere just using a web browser.

Again, I was really happy that there had been no issues with this AWESOME app that has increased the productivity and efficiency of our business.
