As technology progresses so does the art of medicine and modern healthcare. Technological advancements have provided doctors and dentists with new and more efficient methods for providing care and can widen their reach with innovations. Imagine a world where every afflicted individual can get instant care or pertinent information for their specific case. Below are a few ways that new technology and software is changing medical and dental practices.

Teleconferenced Check-Ups

In the past, teleconferencing was something only available to the most profitable corporations. Today, it is available to anyone with access to the internet. The teleconferencing capabilities of programs like Skype are now also being implemented by doctors.

For example, instead of making an office visit for a check-up on the healing process of a wound, the update can be performed through the internet via webcams. This helps bring down the cost of healthcare since office visits can be expensive. It can also allow doctors to share their expertise with others who live in places too far away to travel to. As technology improves, more complex examinations may be able to be performed remotely by doctors and dentists.

Mobile Apps

For good or worse, smart phones have now given everyone the ability to stay connected to the internet no matter where they are. The power of smart phones is also being harnessed by doctors and dentists through the use of mobile apps.

Apps like Solutionreach Patient Engagement have bridged some of the gap between doctors and their patients by providing a quick and efficient way to inform patients and allow them to give feedback on their care. This patient reminder software can be used to do things like inform patients of their upcoming appointments, send out post-appointment surveys and provide articles and information regarding different conditions and treatments.

Digital Record Keeping

In the past, all records had to be stored as paper documents. This was very time consuming and wasteful. If a doctor wanted to read up on a patient’s history, it usually required a secretary digging through file cabinets for the information.

Today, this is no longer an issue. All records are stored on digital files. Pulling up the information stored within them can be done in seconds with a keyboard and mouse. It also allows doctors to better manage a patient’s care since all the relevant information can be stored in a digital treatment plan that can be adjusted as needed.

Overall, technology has certainly changed healthcare for the better. Today’s medical and dental practices are far more efficient and effective at providing care than they were only years earlier. As technology progresses even more, it’s certain that patients will continue to benefit.
