Selling Your Netbook to Get a PC Upgrade - Image 1
Now could be the perfect time to sell your netbook. While many people are finding that they no longer need their old netbook, or discovering that they require something slightly different as technology advances or their lives change, there is often quite a bit of use left in them. The advantages that drew you to the netbook in the first place make them ideal for others and so it's very easy to make extra cash to put towards your next upgrade. Tablets, ultrabooks and even just newer laptops have many features that are attracting current netbook owners. Designed to be mobile and functional, netbooks often do not do the job as well as the latest devices. Technology has come quite some way in terms of processing speed, graphics, touch screens, weight, mobility and ease of use. While netbooks are selling well on the second-hand market, many are finding that now is the time to offload their old machines and use the money to buy a newer laptop or upgrade their existing PC. Only you can tell which would be more practical for you: a more mobile piece of equipment with faster processing and more advanced features, or perhaps more RAM or memory for your PC. Either way, it can be very satisfying knowing that your old netbook has helped finance the upgrade.
There are some great sites out there that will show you how to sell your netbook, walking you through the process quickly and easily. All you need to do is put in the details of your old computer and tell the site what condition it is. Moments later you will receive an offer to accept or decline. Send your netbook in and you get your payment as agreed. There are usually several choices of payment method. Some sites will even arrange collection if you are sending in more than a set number of items, so it is worth digging out more items and making a bit more space as well as getting a little more cash towards your upgrade. Old computers, books, CDs, clothes and other such items can be sold towards your upgrade, all on the same site.
Before you send your netbook off make sure that you have wiped it clean. You do not want to leave sensitive information on the hard drive. Make a back-up of anything you want to keep so that you can install it on your new device, preferably on an external hard drive or USB flash drive. Once you have done that you can delete all of your files. Remember to delete cookies and browser history too. If you are feeling particularly security conscious, as many are, you can use special software that is designed to completely wipe the hard drive, removing everything and leaving your personal data much more secure. If you do this, remember to reinstall the operating system. Alex Jones has been writing about technology for the past nine years. Having upgraded her computer hardware many times over the years, Alex recommends that you learn how to sell your netbook for the best possible price, which usually means holding out for the right offer and knowing how much old technology is actually worth.
