Social media marketing is big and continually growing. Facebook is the largest of them, with over 1.3 billion users, and the broadest, in terms of scope and demographic range. By not using Facebook marketing, a business loses the opportunity to target millions of potential customers from a single platform.

Today, scrolling through a personal Facebook news feed is not just about keeping up with what friends and family are doing. Interspersed between the status updates and funny holiday pictures are the sponsored ads, the posts from businesses followed and the occasional nudge to interact with other business. This is because businesses using a Facebook marketing strategy are working to increase their engagement with their target audience.

Every business gaining a good following and achieving a good return on their investment, whether that investment is time or money, are following a targeted and consistent Facebook marketing strategy. Whether from the perspective of a new Facebook business profile or revamping a profile left to deteriorate, the following is just six of the ways in which business can build a specific and effective Facebook marketing plan.

Strategy # 1 â Start with a plan, track it, and change if necessary.

Without a targeted, timely, Facebook marketing strategy, it is a fact that the content and the reach of the business profile will stagnate. Regular activity is vital to keeping a social media profile active. Creating a post timetable with the number of posts per day or week and ensuring they happen is the best way to ensure that content on the profile stays current.

Before starting a marketing strategy, most businesses benefit from some sort of tracking software, that can monitor sales, engagement, website traffic flow and direction. It is best to start tracking before starting a marketing campaign so that any improvements and changes in traffic source and increases in sales can show a direct correlation to the Facebook marketing strategy.

Facebook marketing isnât instant; it takes time for likes and shares to spread and visibility of a profile to increase. The tracking software will show what changes are happening even if they appear slow. However, a marketing strategy is a fluid entity; it needs to be flexible to reflect the changing patterns of Facebook behavior.

Strategy # 2 Give your business a human face.

People like to do business with people, not a corporate brand. No Facebook business page should be entirely company propaganda; there should be ways of engaging with people not just drawing customers. It is essential to remember that Facebook is a SOCIAL network. The standard rule is that 80% of the content should be informative, engaging and inspiring. The other 20% should be promotional ads. However, there is a second split, the 80% intended to engage audience members should be 60% industry and company oriented with articles, âhow toâ information and other valuable commentary while the remaining 20% should be personal.

This doesnât mean sharing deep personal beliefs and life-changing situations, but just allowing followers to see that they want to do business with a human being, not a corporate computer. Sharing an inspiring quote that has encouraged the growth of the business and telling the fans why. Itâs simple but effective in gaining trust with potential clients.

Strategy #3 Provide excellent content.

Content is King is the axiom for all web-based content and it is no different for a Facebook marketing strategy. Providing valuable and engaging content is what grabs the attention of followers and keeps them coming back for more. The only way to keep readers coming back for more is by continually creating new content.

Using a variety of media types keeps the content fresh and dynamic even when they are close links between posts. Visual cues are the most arresting, people look at the pictures first and the text second. Using visual media makes it relevant and captivating to enhance engagement. By mixing posts with written articles, video blogs and infographics, engagement with readers increases because different media appeals to different people.

Strategy # 4 Make sharing easier

This is a Facebook marketing strategy, but that doesnât mean ignoring the other social media platforms out there. By making content easy to share with other platforms, engagement doesnât have to be limited to those friends, family and associates who use Facebook.

Posting a âHow toâ on a Facebook page may be relevant to users on Pinterest. Writing an article about âthe importance of a university education in the job marketâ is possibly important to users on LinkedIn.

Strategy # 5 Deciding on the aim of the Facebook page

Work out what the purpose of the Facebook page is. If the company has a vision or mission statement this could be what they want to promote. However, they need to determine how they want the Facebook engage and with whom they wish to engage.

A company selling fruit and vegetable seeds and plants may wish to engage with gardeners and growers, inviting them to share their achievements and losses. There may even be reviewed opportunities and product giveaways to draw in the followers.

Strategy # 6 Encourage Dialogue

Marketing has become a two-way dialogue and encouraging it is further engagement with future and potential clientele. Every time a business post receives a comment with a message to the poster, the poster should answer it. Even if the message is, just an expression of gratitude or a keep going incentive there should be thanked for sharing, and commenting.

If a post has received many comments to the poster, it may not be possible to answer them all individually. However, answering the ones with specific questions and then creating a new message, along the lines of, Thank you for all⦠It shows interest in the thoughts and opinions of the readers and they feel valued.

These are just some of the approaches that can improve a Facebook marketing tactic. A truly comprehensive marketing campaign would include paid advertising. However, the tactics mentioned above are far more important when it comes to user engagement and engagement is the key to getting those paid advertisements seen.

You need reliable groups in order to market something on Facebook, where compared to Twitter, you just need to mention people. But, Facebook is really great when it comes to audience.
