Paint.NET

On the one hand it is a simple, but on the other hand a powerful graphical editor. And besides it is free. There is no advertising on the installation phase as well as in the interface. Its level of capacity can be estimated as the average - it is higher than in Paint and lower than in products such as the GIMP. User of Paint.NET is the one, who does not want to master complex products such as Photoshop or GIMP, but on the other hand do not mind to try something more than Paint. It contains sufficient effects to improve your pictures. There are red-eye reduction, blur, styling, accuracy improving, illumination, various types of distortion, noise reduction, etc.

Advantages

Interface with a nice design

Support of layers

Ease of use

It includes a sufficient number of filters and effects

Disadvantages

Not as complete as other popular graphics packages

PhotoScape

PhotoScape is a great, versatile and free graphic editor. The program combines means for easy viewing of images, a fairly powerful editor, editing tools, means of creating collages and animated GIF images, as well as a utility for easy printing of images. It is free and installed without any problems. This program comprises such number of filters, tools and special effects, that it is hard to believe that it is free.

Advantages

Great free app

Mass of special effects and filters

A lot of additional tools for photo processing

Disadvantages

It is not found

Picasa

Picasa is a program for viewing photos, creating albums and editing pictures. The program has a user-friendly and beautiful interface. It is designed primarily to serve the private non-professional photographers.

Advantages

user-friendly menu

simple, intuitive and powerful enough editor

the possibility of direct communication with Google Accounts

Disadvantages

there is no way of compressing photos without resizing

history management is implemented not very handy

GIMP

GIMP is a free tool with open source software, allowing you to create and edit images. You can create your own images using the retouching tools, pencil drawing, cloning and gradients. Experienced users can create their own brushes and patterns for later use. In addition, as suggested by my collegues from www.essayonline.biz, GIMP gives users the ability to process images imported into the program. You can crop, add text, resize and create nested layers. There is even the possibility to animate your creations.

Disadvantages

You cannot view multiple items in one window

there are no built automatic functions
