Projector and screen or smart board - spare parts can often be hard to come by

You're in the middle of a presentation to a class full of kids or detailing the latest product to a sales team, when the projector you're using ceases to be. It appears to have kicked the bucket and passed on to silicon heaven, just when you're about to get to the best bit. It is at times like this you really want to give it a good kick. However, chances are all that you need is a spare part to replace the piece which has failed and you’ll be up and running in no time.

A window into the past

Back in the days when this writer was a mere ‘whippersnapper’ the projector we had in school was state of the art. It seemed to be big enough to be used as a kennel for a small to medium size dog. Judging from our teacher’s huffing and puffing when he lifted it on to the table, it was also quite heavy.

Back then projectors were nothing more than a metal box which contained a lamp and a fan. The lamp glowed almost as hot as the sun and the fan induced a small hurricane like air flow to keep the entire apparatus cool. Back then there was little that could go wrong, and if it did, it was soon fixed by a teacher who wasn’t hand tied by modern health and safety legislation.

State of the art

Fast forward to 2013 and projector units are often hi tech affairs. Fitted with connectors for USB memory devices, Wi-Fi enabled for networking for linking to laptops and other computer equipment, modern devices are a far cry from my youth.

However, the basic principal is the same; project an image or moving images on to a vertical screen. And you know what; modern projector units have the same propensity for braking down just when you least expect them to.

Old or new they all have weak links

Whether you have state of the art projection equipment or one of those old ‘dinosaurs’ which refuses to give up the ghost but has the occasional breakdown, they all need a little TLC now and then. Lamps, bulbs, fuses, cables, connectors and other accessories can break down at any time often without warning. Interactive whiteboards may become ‘non-interactive.

You may need a complete installation service or merely a supplier of equipment of which you will install and use. It is at times such as these you need a reliable source of spare parts, new equipment and accessories to keep your equipment up and running when and where it is needed.

Perhaps as a result of breakdown beyond repair, or as a result of upgrading from old equipment to the latest, you're always going to need a reliable supplier.

You may want to trade in old for new, or just have old equipment taken away for recycling to conform to the WEEE regulations. To ensure you have the equipment and/or spare parts you need as and when you need them, or a reliable recycler of electrical equipment, make sure the supplier you choose has the experience and equipment to back up their SLA.
