How to zip whole folder in linux command ?

Hi

I want to zip a folder in linux command and then send the zip folder to a particular folder in the same server.

Example my folder :

var/www/pictures => pictures.zip

pictures.zip => var/www/new_pictures

i am using ubuntu server. please help me to find the solution

    Best way to zip using the linux command,

    zip -r /path/files.zip /path-of-the-folder/
