Ajax--->php : How to call a controller function to update the tags with new data?

I am trying to call a php controller function to update a drop down list.

Scenario: Two drop down lists, namely "Country" and "Cities"

Based on the selection of country from dropdown list of Country, I need to enable a cities list at Cities dropdown list, and simultaneously display the hotels available in that country and in that selected city.

How should I call the controller function of PHP inside ajax ?
