This course provides step-by-step instructions for building and hosting a static website and blog using programs written in Python. If you have always wanted a simple but continuously updated website and blog online, this course will help you achieve that objective. If you currently have a website with static HTML pages and would like to move to a solution that makes use of HTML templates. This course makes use of Pelican, as static site generator with support for Jinja2 templates. In this course, we will
- Install Python, Pelican, Virtualenv, Git and other programs required for building and hosting the website.
- Learn how to create and work with virtual Python environments.
- Build a basic site structure and add pages and posts.
- Deploy (host) the website online on Github. You can also upload the generated files to your web host using FTP or other means.
