Choosing Between the iPhone 5S and the Samsung Galaxy S5 - Image 1
If you are on the fence regarding which smartphone you'd be attaching your lightning USB cable, be rest assured you are not alone. As much as people have become die-hard fans of either the iOS platform being utilized by Apple gadgets or the Android OS used by Samsung smartphones, there may be new tweaks anew for each gadget that may sway loyalists to the other side.

After all, there are those gadget owners that may be quite satisfied with their current iPhone or Samsung S3 or S4, but could reconsider staying or upgrading to the new releases if the opposite side offers that one feature they've been waiting for. I know of some people who actually switched from an Android smartphone to an iPhone just because it took so long for Temple Run (yes, the game app) to have an android version. That's how finicky the market can get!
So, without further ado, here are some feature comparisons between the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 5S:
  • Performance and Processor
The Galaxy S5 contains a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 805 processor. The RAM according to the manufacturer's spec sheet is 2GB, which is lower compared to expectations of a 3GB RAM. Nevertheless, you are assured of a snappy, smooth performance from the S5. On the other hand, the iPhone 5S has a 64-bit A7 processor running at a maximum of 1.3GHz. The processor is dual core and the DD3 RAM is at 1GB. That should ensure 5S owners of lag-less performance.
  • Battery Life
The Galaxy S5 has a 2800mAh battery, which according to Samsung, allows for 390 hours standby or 21 hours of talk, which practically means with mixed use, will provide the phone a couple of days on the average. In connection to this, the phone has an Ultra Power saving Mode which turns the display from colored to black and white, as well as turn off all features it deems unnecessary. In comparison, the iPhone 5S battery life is not as astounding as its Samsung nemesis, as it only provides 250 hours standby time and 10 hours if the 3G function is used. Yes, this means you may have to park your iPhone 5S on your USB 3.0 docking station.
  • Other features

For the Galaxy S5, distinct features include a fingerprint reader for security and easy access to the smartphone's home screen. There's also a Kids Mode wherein the phone's data doesn't get destroyed even if a kid accidentally get hold of the phone and randomly clicks on things on the screen. The Galaxy S5 Touchwiz has also gotten slight cosmetic tweaks.

As for the iPhone 5S, several upgrades have also been put in place, such as Touch ID and 64-bit architecture.
