Meaning of email?

EML Files:

EML is simply a file extension of files (mail messages) which are there in Outlook. EML files are also presented in Microsoft programs and it is not limited to Outlook express. It is saved to a file in MIME RFC 822 format. The key purpose of EML files is to store mail messages in the form of clear text file that too in standard file structure. It comprises of simple ASCII text for main message body, hyperlinks, attachments and text for headers. Header consists of subject, email address of both sender and receiver and date of message. EML files works with other email clients also because of the format they are created in.

Where EML files are present in Outlook Express:

You can read EML files by using these two methods in Outlook Express. The first way is to locate your file in outlook express and when you have located you file, click on save as option and your file would get saved easily on your desired location.

Now, the second way is a simple method. You can also drag and drop your file. Choose your file, place your cursor on it and drag it wherever you want to save it; (for example to desktop or a folder in one of your drive) and just drop it there. You will see that the file which is saved would be in EML format.

PST Files:

PST (Personal Storage Table) is a file format which saves replicas of calendar events, other items and messages within Microsoft programs like Windows Messaging, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Client. Microsoft Outlook saves all the items in a .pst file which are obviously located on computer. Mainly archived items are saved in a .pst file. Users can also free space on their mailservers by simply moving files from a server to .pst files. PST files also uses fixed-block allocation scheme, meaning when email messages are combined to a .pst file; the file size gets automatically altered by mail client. If you want decrease the size of PST files, then you should compress them.

How to locate a .pst file

Follow these steps to find an existing or old .pst files in your computer:

Double click on Computer and look for the search bar.
Search for .pst and then you will see all the .pst files.

Location of PST Files:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\ \Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

Windows 7 or Vista: C:\Users\ \AppData\Local\MicrosoftOutlook

Now, as you are familiar with both EML and PST files and if a user wants to shift from using EML files to PST. Most of the users might face problem to deal with this situation.
