Voice over internet protocol, which is also known as VoIP came along a few years ago and with it came a lot of change with the world of telecommunications. Telephone companies now were in trouble because people could use the internet to make a call instead of sticking with the typical land line telephone. In order to keep the customers they had, the telephone companies had to really work hard to make their services a lot lower, or offer a lot of incentives for the customers that still used their phone services, and also looked at the ability to make a call over the internet with skepticism. However, some people that used VoIP did not like the way it worked, and the company that offered it had to rely on a session border controller to make things better.
Improving VoIP Calls and Services
A long time ago, whenever you put money into a pay phone and made a call, after a certain amount of time on the phone, the operator would break in and announce your time was almost up.When the operator came on the line, you had to either wrap up the call quickly or simply put in more money to be able to keep talking on the phone. The fact that the phone company could break into your call at any time was annoying because it meant that someone else was in control of your call instead of you, and you were the one that paid to make it. A session border controller can make you be the one in charge of your own call, and you as the one that should say when it ends.

• Improves call quality: Some VoIP calls do not sound like a regular phone call. Some people describe talking on a VoIP phone as muffled, the calls have low volume, or there is a lot of interference and static on the line. Many people were not happy with the call quality, and ending up going back to their old phone company because at least with a land-line phone the calls were much clearer sounding. A session border controller can vastly improve the quality of the calls and make them sound just as good as the calls through a wire.
• Improves security: With a session border controller, you do not have to worry about someone suddenly appearing on the line that is not supposed to be there. You can make your calls in privacy, and speak freely about anything you want without worrying about someone else listening in on your conversation.
• Needs no additional equipment: VoIP usually requires some small piece of equipment, but using a border controller will not mean having to add anything extra because of it all software based.
Voice over internet protocol made phone calls over the internet possible. However, some people were thrilled with the idea of dumping their telephone service, but others were not sure of the way it would work. To make VoIP sound better there is something called a session border controller. With this controller, you can make a better sounding call, not having to worry about security, and you do not need to add on any more equipment to your home.
