Information released by Apple recently on the time spent on their handsets as well as the percentage of share in apps has created a furore of debates. The assertion that most iOS users use their devices more than android has been the subject of debate in major forums on the internet as well as conferences held by both android and Apple. Interestingly, android has a larger share in the number of devices bought by customers but lags behind when it comes to the overall time that consumers spend on its Google play store.

Tim cook who is Apple's Chief Executive Officer recently made an announcement that Apple has sold 600 million iOS devices to this very day. In as much as the figures produced by the chief executive of Apple are impressive, the subject of debate has been his assertion that on average consumers spend more time on the IOS devices as compared to consumers who use Android phones. This is rather surprising given that Android has a larger share of market in people who use their devices. This revelation has brought to the fore questions as to why users use their iOS more than their android counterparts.

Incidentally, app share vs. device share seems to give a better explanation as to why this is the case. Even though Android have sold more than 900 million copies as compared to Apples 600 million, Apple seems to lead in the amount of time users spend on their application store as compared to Android. What this basically brings to the fore is that Android is on the lead when it comes to device share but lags behind when it comes to app share. Majority of iOS users spend more time on the Apple application store as compared to Google play store.

In order to clearly understand this observation, there have been 3 reasons given to explain the difference. For starters a lot of people seem to be excited by the concept and prospect of a computer pocket as opposed to a phone which is upgraded to perform computer functions. Apple became the first to popularize and roll out the app store. This caused an interest in iPads and iPhones and with it came the popularity of the Apple apps. In other words, in as much Android handsets are cheaper hence popular with many consumers, Apple users bought the handsets because of the app feature which was core to it while Android simply used the apps as something that many customers would want to have.

Add to this the fact that Apple used the app thing as a slogan hence tying their phones to the app thing and you will realize the origin of the app and devise share difference. Another important reason as to why iOS users spend more time on their devices more than their Android counterparts is because of their narrow mix of screens. Essentially, Apple only has four different kinds of screen sizes uses the most recent versions which make it easy for them to update apps more easily as opposed to android which has various screen sizes and use old versions. The ease with which apps can be updated on Apple is also another reason why users prefer iOS apps.

Many owners of Apple devices use it for shopping and this has drastically increased shopping traffic something which chief executive contend is one of the reasons why users spend more time on their devices than those of Android. Customer satisfaction is also another important aspect. Apple users are believed to have a customer satisfaction percentage of 73 and 90% of its users use the latest software version in the market. This probably explains why a big number of Apple users spend a long period of time on their devices as compared to their Android counterparts. In conclusion, in as much as the above trajectory might be debatable especially given the large share market of android devices, the truth of the matter is that Apple uses the latest software versions hence making updates easy. The onus is therefore on Android to take notes and make improvements on its software and wore towards making Google play more appealing and attractive to its users.
