Facebook Logo Redesigned Using Flat Approach - Image 1
For those who were expecting a flashy 3D logo from one of the biggest social network, there is bad news! The world over social network has topped off its reach by introduction of new features and products, but what about logo redesign? The Facebook world is going flat, a joke it may sound that Facebook has introduced a similar logo again. Well, it really was a joke! However, the company has given us chance to talk around. It is a social network site which has gone through many changes in last few years, we thought they believed in prominent difference, but that’s not in the case of logo redesign. Facebook is following the flat design trend, a minor logo update after swathe of new features and products.

Developer Tom Waddington recently noticed a slight redesign to Facebook’s logo done recently. It’s hard for many to believe that such simple logo will live next to Facebook’s revamped website next to Graph Search bar. Users and companies thought Facebook will come up with a ‘Out-of-the-box’ logo. Facebook has always surprised us with its incredible features and its worldwide reach. We believed that there is less possibility of people liking their logo redesign surprise.

However, visually the new logo is considered more striking than the old one, with the new design losing the transparent strip. The character as a whole has now become a symbol than a letter by making ‘f’ larger, and simplifying design. The Facebook block now certainly looks more of an app icon than a company’s.
What is Flat Approach?

Flat design is a simple Creative Logo Design approach with minimal changes that focuses usability. It features flat/two dimensions with crisp edges, open space, and clean illustration. When following flat design approach, all the decorative elements that can be added to the logos are avoided. In this approach, they are considered nothing but unnecessary clutter. Every aspect should deliver a purpose, and it’s not able too, it is considered as a distraction. A lot of famous companies had undergone flat designs, and became successful. It was initially applied by Microsoft followed by Apple for iOS interface.

Are you thinking it takes the logo towards boring side? Just because it lacks ornamental and flashy design doesn’t mean it’s a boring style. Contrasting, and bright logo colors are easy to grab attention and attract user’s eye. Such illustrations make your logo pop from the background.

There may be many reasons why Facebook opted for flat logo design having other attractive options for redesigning. It may be the fact that detailed illustrations are not as quick to convey messages as simple images do. It’s not that hard to identify difference between a flat and decorative design. Facebook must have clear idea that solid color blocks, and bigger icons perceived the meaning of logo more quickly due to its attention-grabbing ability.

As compared to current logo, previous logo now looks bit fussy. Along with Facebook’s twitter account, the company has also started using the logo for other official pages.
