Yes, it is now official - ChromeBook users will soon be able to download Android apps and use them like native programs on the platform!

This merger is touted as a pivotal step among the developers community as they believed that this will bring about a major (and positive) shift in android app development, further solidify its position in the mobile app market.

So, now the question is – How can this seemingly insignificant shift make a considerable impact on the mobile app market?

Once the Android apps are available for download on ChromeBooks, it will no longer be used for just the Android devices. Developing application for Android will soon imply that you need to develop them for a wide and diversified range of devices. This will eventually open up a whole new avenue of potential users!

Therefore, the app user base will not be just restricted to smartphones or tablets; developers can reach to more people who use laptops and even desktops. This, further results into a significant reduction of the development cost! In fact, since responsive design optimization is required for multi-window function in Android N, the developers can test their apps on Chrome OS, as well and too that without putting any extra productive hours or efforts.

Moreover, this move is seen as an attempt by Google to create a robust app store which eventually can attract and motivate more developers to consider Android/Chrome apps building a top priority!

Android apps on Chrome OS – A revolution is about to begin!

Although, it may seem that this move to bring Android apps on to Chrome OS is quite trivial, one cannot deny the fact that it definitely has the potential to redefine mobile application development. It can actually bring a tectonic shift in the way we perceive mobile platforms and technology. In fact, from a user’s perspective, it indeed is an incredible revolution, which is set to make their lives simpler!

In a nutshell, this move is seen as a major turning point which will apparently open more exciting avenues for some really lucrative possibilities, in the future.
