A bounce rate is a percentage of users which leave your website by viewing just a single page.
The more the bounce rate the more worry it is for the website owner because something might be wrong and hence people are leaving the website without even reading another page.
Bounce rate is an important consideration when it comes to SEO. It also means that we might be getting the wrong kind of traffic and that is why these people are leaving the site so early. And hence you need to restrategize your SEO efforts for better output and results.
Bounce rate is a serious issue as this means more the bounce less interested are visitors in your website or content.

We are discussing the following ways to reduce bounce rate which should apply to any website or WordPress theme website in general:

1) Increase site speed: Site speeds are an important factor and if the site loads very slowly many users wouldn’t like to wait that long for the site to open up and then start reading the content. They would probably just close their browser tab and use some other similar website.
So basically people expect a site to load in less than 2 seconds otherwise they would abandon it and continue to the next site which loads faster.
A faster loading site would also mean that people might click several links and navigation items in order to gain more information about your product or services before contacting you. So this is again a beneficial thing.

2) Avoid pop ups: Pop ups are irritating and annoying most of the times. A pop up welcoming someone to the website or asking them to sign up for freebie just once is alright.
However if your pop up continuously appears in middle of the visitor reading your content he might totally close the site and exit leading to more bounce rates.
Pop ups only should be done when you can’t have better subscription rates or have some major announcement or discount offers going on. Otherwise you shouldn’t regularly flash a pop up and rather have news ticker kind of thing displayed on top in the header as it reduces problems for the user who has visited your website for reading something.

3) Break long content into parts or pages: Long content which are very long to read often scare away people who don’t know how the content is written and whether the content is interesting or not. Its like reading a long book and getting yourself prepared. Regular visitors might visit your site and read the long content but new users will definitely avoid reading lengthy content and most probably are looking for pointers on how to solve a problem. Hence break lengthy content of your blog or pages or posts into several parts which makes it easy for users to read and they don’t get scared by seeing a big lengthy content page.

4) Simple and easy to read fonts: Easy and simple web safe fonts with better font size provide better visibility for all users and people don’t want to read too much cursive fonts as many times it doesn’t help them understand what is written. Hence avoid too many cursive fonts and opt for simple ones.
5) Avoid too many graphics: Too many graphics would mean an users eye would go here and there and probably miss out on the most important parts of the site. Hence keep simple graphics which aren’t always eye catchy and only keep a great graphic for your call to action buttons.

6) Better Mobile responsiveness: Better mobile responsiveness is essential because most of the visitors nowadays prefer their hand held devices over traditional computers for reading or exploring things and hence the better responsive your website is to mobile and tablets better are the chances of people staying on your website for long.

7) Easy to click and navigate: Navigation of any WordPress website should be simple and not cluttered otherwise people won’t be able to freely navigate and easily visit all the pages of your website.

8) Related posts: Related posts under a single blog post increases chances of people staying more on your website reading other important stuff you have written and also chances are they might find what they were looking for.

9) Avoid several ads: Several eye catchy ads will make the user think of your site as a money earning website rather than making it more trustworthy. Hence keep your ads number to a minimum and avoid extensive eye catchy ads.

Conclusion: WordPress free themes and templates used to create a website can have great reduced bounce rates if the above details are kept in mind and implemented into the website.
