Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1: Product Review - Image 1

Unveiled by Samsung in 2012, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is undisputedly one of the premier Android tablets in the market today. Running the lce Cream Sandwich operating system and powered by a strong dual core processor, this unit offers a maximum performance to bring your tablet experience to another exciting level of interactivity and multimedia sharing. It is also loaded with cool apps and complete Google Mobile services to keep you and your entire family and friends entertained and happy.

Design and Display

Flaunting its slim and light design, the Tab 2 (10. 1) measures 175.3 x 256.6 x 9.7 mm at 587 g. Though it may be slightly heavier than its predecessor, it still feels comfortable on your hands. Surely you won’t also fail to notice the two front facing speakers that sit obviously on both sides of the unit. While this may be purposely designed to provide its users a great audio quality experience, its lack of aesthetic touch is quite disappointing to some.

Just like its predecessor, this tablet still features a plastic backside which is not really quite impressive to brag about. Samsung though has managed to change its color from white to titanium silver. It may not be as sleek and stylish like the Apple tabs look like, but it sure still feels reassuringly solid and well built.

In the middle of the unit is the 10.1 inch display which runs at a resolution of 1, 280 x 800 pixels, quite good enough to put clear and vibrant images and details on view. You will find the power/ sleep button, IR blaster, micro SD slot, volume rocker and headphone jack sitting on the top edge of the tablet when it is held in landscape. The microphone pinhole, on the other hand, is located just beside the dock connector at the bottom part of the unit.

Camera

The Tablet 2 (10.1) is equipped with 2 cameras: the 3- megapixel rear camera and the VGA front facing-camera. If you really want to capture great shots and record clear and smooth videos, you better want to look for other tabs. This unit only features basic camera options. The front facing camera is merely there to make video calling, take self-portraits, and possible use of apps like Skype. The rear camera, on the other hand, features basic functions like scene modes, panorama, exposure control, and the like. Unfortunately, Samsung did not include an auto focus and flash options on its camera.

Performance

If you are after efficient and fluid performance, buying the Tab 2 (10.1) is indeed a great choice. With its 1 GHz dual core processor, 1 GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage, swiping through screens and switching from one app to another is real fast and smooth. The screen is very responsive and your favorite apps launch without delay after tapping it. On the other hand, if you are one of those HD movie lovers, you may be disappointed with the 16GB internal storage that the unit offers.

The unit also features a strong 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi technology, great for web surfing, online games playing, and even making calls using VoIP. If you are a subscriber of third party services such as those from RingCentral, you would be pleased by its fast and strong Internet connectivity. Surely, you won’t get frustrated anymore from the annoying lags that you usually get when using your smartphone.

Overall, the Samsung Tablet 2 (10.1) is considerably one of the top tablets in the market that offers a powerful performance to cater your entertainment and other mobile demands. Physically, it may not be the most stylish and beautiful tab to flaunt around, but considering its efficiency, this is a great value for your money.
