If you run an online business, one of the most important decisions that you have to make is what kind of hosting services to choose. Broadly speaking, there are three major categories and these are dedicated server hosting, VPS server hosting and shared web hosting. In the present scenario, most of the organizations prefer to opt for dedicated server as there are countless benefits of opting for this type of service. After all, with a dedicated server, you don’t need to worry about other websites or applications affecting the performance of your website.
Why to choose a dedicated server

No matter whether you have a small scale business or a large one, dedicated server hosting is probably the ideal choice for you. This is simply because when you have a dedicated server working for your business applications and websites, you can rest assured of the consistent performance of those. This is especially beneficial if the website or the application is loaded with myriads of features. There is a wide range of dedicated servers, available in the market and the price varies according to the software and hardware features that you choose for the server. Opting for a dedicated server also ensures that you have absolute security for all your mission critical data, as no one else gets access to all those data.
How to choose the right dedicated server

When you consider opting for a dedicated server, there are several criterion that you should consider. First off, you should check if you or any other employee of your company can handle the different tasks of server administration. If not, you should look for an advanced managed services.

If you are not sure how to choose the right dedicated server, here are certain decisive factors that you must consider –

· Memory – If you want your application or website to load extremely fast, you should opt for a dedicated server that has vast memory. This is because it’s the memory of a server that determines whether or not the website and applications hosted on it will load quickly. The more RAM is installed on a server, the faster the server will run. This will ensure that the website will load quickly.

· Processor – If you need a server that is extremely powerful, you should look for a server with a strong processor. If the website that you are going to run is loaded with CPU intensive scripts, you will need a server with powerful processor. Usually SQL servers or video transcoding servers are used for heavily loaded websites. At times, specialized servers like chat servers or game servers are also used as these are manufactured with multiple processors.

· Bandwidth – The bandwidth of a server determines how much data can be transferred to and from your website within a given period of time. If you need a hefty amount of traffic to your website, be sure to opt for a server with high bandwidth.

These are some of the most important factors considering which you will be able to choose the right dedicated server hosting.

That's very useful guidance, thank you, Jitesh. Since most (if not all) providers may not allow us to test the adequacy of a VPS server hosting vs a dedicated server hosting before buying, it would be great if you could provide some thumb rules on how to calculate the ideal rating/capacity of memory, processor and bandwidth that may be required.
