The Future of iPhones in Enterprises

With the Bring Your Own Device (B.Y.O.D) methodology getting common in various enterprises, a number of Smartphone and other mobile device manufacturers like Apple, Samsung and Nokia are in the run to grasp the opportunity with both hands. Apple with its iPhones and iPads has managed to take the lead as it flooded the offices with its employee-friendly devices.
Though it is understandable that the business handset market is small, but it is still significant. And Apple seems to have left no stone unturned to get into the enterprise world. But it has not been a Cinderella story for Apple either. There were a number of hurdles in the path of success. The top threat to Apple is the IT department of any enterprise. No matter how popular the iPhone is amongst its users but these IT officials and CIOs still see iPhone as security threat.
The Loop-Hole
Although these CIOs and IT department of the enterprises have accepted the wide popularity of iPhones and iPads, they are still reluctant to make it an official device. There are a number of security glitches in Apple’s devices that possesses serious threat to the enterprise. But the bottom line is that Apple somehow has been able to sell its products to enterprise without getting a nod from its IT officials. This means that they are dependent on the whims of the end-users, which can be a bad thing.
Getting employees to fall in love with iPhone routed Apple into the enterprise, but Apple also need to woo CIOs if it wants to stay there for long. Apple Inc. has been working with its iPhone app development team so as to come up with a way to support bombastic enterprise capabilities. We are yet to see any robust security system on iPhones that can cater to the requirements of enterprises.

A number of rival Smartphone manufacturing companies have emerged lately and they also deliver high-end smartphones that people actually have started to like. In fact there are a significant number of non-iPhone users in enterprises.
The biggest competitor to Apple’s iPhone is Microsoft’s Windows enabled mobile devices. Microsoft, being the leader in enterprise desktop provider is the top choice for various CIOs and IT departments around the world. It offers a set of technologies that can be integrated with their existing systems in the enterprises. Microsoft already has the skills to support Windows enabled devices. This could mean that Microsoft with its Windows 8 tablets, laptops and Phones can emerge as the real winner in the war of being the top choice for enterprises.
One will have to understand that today buying a smartphone is not like opening a bank account. Customers can migrate easily from one manufacturer to another. Thus, it is worth re-iterating that although Apple has an edge over Microsoft in enterprises for now, but smartphone market is moving very fast, which means that today's showstopper (Apple’s iPhone) could be tomorrow's audience. iOS developers in India are working rigorously to have deep relationships with business owners so as to have a long inning in enterprise market.
