Many question the resourcefulness of their companies, especially regarding the way data is being stored. Often times, teams wonder if the data they are storing is worth all of the extra cost, energy, and attention that is necessary. Though these concerns are valid, companies need to focus instead on gaining wisdom and insight into their stored data and why it is important to the health and wealth of their businesses. Did you know that many teams who initially want to incorporate a data storage system end dumping their plans after seeing the costs associated with it? Failure to follow through in this regard is all too common, and it is really too bad! Since storage and protection of data is an important part of overall company security, why wouldn’t companies jump at the opportunity to do this? Good question. The main reason is because it can be entirely overwhelming to store it all, and when teams see the vast sphere of data that must be managed, it is easier to bury their heads in the sand.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way! In fact, we live in such a technologically advanced era, that there is a tool to help on every proverbial corner. IT departments have various tools to research and filter through when it comes to figuring out how to best manage their data, and often times in their searches, consideration of either the cloud or virtualization comes up. A common question regarding these two data storage solutions is if they are reliable enough to successfully store company data. The proof is in the pudding, and the answer is yes mostly. Both the cloud and virtualization are very reliable, however they fall short when it comes to excellent management of the data. The truth is, businesses need a system in which their massive amounts of data can be automatically categorized and organized. This way, company data becomes much more valuable, as it is actually taken care of and not haphazardly thrown into storage with no rhyme or reason.

Companies can take a sigh of relief when they realize that there are excellent tools on the market that exist to make the giant task of managing data an easier and more enjoyable one. It is not something anyone needs to do alone or manually anymore, as these tools are able to classify and organize data on their own. With the proper resources and a keen understanding of business, companies will be set for successfully completing this huge task. Gone are the days of wasted time and endless categorization. Here is a prime example of how the right understanding paired with good tools is essential in organizing huge amounts of information. Let’s say you are trying to classify every single chemical engineer worldwide. Sounds like a massive task, right? Especially since there are over 7 billion people on this planet! The question you would need to address is HOW you would narrow down your search so that you are not profiling every person. In order to organize your findings, you would most likely group people according to their professions, and then break it down even further into who graduated from engineering school. This way, you would quickly filter out anyone who is NOT an engineer, making your search that much easier. By streamlining and organizing your information, the task is not as huge as it originally appeared! It is the same with using the right tools for data management. It is essential that teams not only equip themselves with such tools, but also get educated on understanding business models. This way, there will be a much better handle on corporate data, and companies can rest easy knowing the management of their data is running as efficiently as possible.

We must not underestimate what a privilege it is to live in an era which makes having access to tools like the ones mentioned above so easy. Better yet, confidence and understanding is gained for administrators because they are better able to grasp and navigate the ebbs and flows within the world of IT. A prime example is when changes with data types and volumes occur, these tools will help lower the overall capacity needs, cut costs on backup and recovery, and help departments pass compliance audits. Failing to meet regulatory compliance rules are a thing of the past with the assistance of these amazing tools.

In closing, IT departments need to understand the importance of both wisdom and the possession of good tools with respect to successfully managing their data. If more companies knew the absolute importance of data management, they would run -not walk- to get the tools and knowledge they need. Keep in mind, tools alone are not enough to effectively manage the tornado of the IT world. Again, teams need wisdom and the proper outlook regarding the importance of data management and how it is the bread and butter of their company. It is important that teams be on the lookout for resources that will best suit their individual department needs so that the classification of their files is successfully accomplished. The bottom line is this: get smart and get equipped so that you can have an effective data management plan that perfectly suits your department needs. It’s not as hard as it may seem!
