One of the most essential components in any operation or transaction safe on the web is a certified SSL. What is this type of web components and to serve us? Consider some conceptualization regarding this topic.

The SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is a security protocol developed by the company Netscape Communications to ensure that the transmission of data between a server and a user, or vice versa, via the Internet, is completely safe. The SSL is an open protocol, so it can be used by any manufacturer of Internet applications, one of its great advantages that can be used with any protocol services common Internet ( HTTP , FTP , SMTP , etc.), but more often it is used for web traffic via the protocol HTTP . Protocol SSL is based on the use of an encryption system that uses an algorithm (public key / private key) using a security key of 128 bits long and known only to the user's machine and the server connected provides the connection.

These keys enable the encryption of data for anyone who did not have to read its contents. This means that any information sent from a secure server (using SSL ) using a browser with tech support SSL (and nearly all more common in newer versions), will travel over the Internet safe from that it can be traced, copied and decoded by a user other than the communication pertaining to the originally established.

Then, to use the protocol SSL and within a website is necessary that the concerned web in possession (installed) of a digital certificate security known as SSL certificate and that it interacted with a web browser that has support for SSL (and virtually all browsers do). We attach a diagram below illustrates this communication.

A certificate SSL is an electronic "signature" that proves identity and credentials when accessing a secure website, identifies a particular server, or perform any transaction that involves offering confidential data through the secure website. This is the basic operation of payment via credit card (credit or debit) that is performed at an electronic store via the web.

SSL Certificates are issued by a certification authority (CA) such as GoGetSSL, but not provided by the unauthorized dealer. Certificates SSL contain information such as name of the client company (for whom the certificate is generated question), an own serial number of the certificate expiration date (the certificate), and a public key for encrypting the information.

How do we know if a website has an SSL certificate protection under? This can be seen with the naked eye in all major browsers. The first is the prefix HTTP address URL of the website, switch to HTTPS (which stands for HTTP Secure), the second is that somewhere in the browser window (it depends on which browser you use), it displays an icon shaped lock, the same by giving click opens a window with all the certificate data SSL in question, and the data of the entity that generated the CA certificate. Below is a representative image of this.

How to get a SSL certificate? Organization wishing to encrypt information in some of your webpages must request a digital certificate from a certification authority (CA).

Now, do not get confused if your hosting provider offers a certificate SSL, He is not a CA, although it can be as a distributor of a CA registered. This means that your hosting provider can arrange a certificate SSL of any of the CA recognized (as mentioned above). Or, can you go to the official website of the CA of your choice and arrange for yourself the certificate SSL occupy.

Precisely certificates SSL are paid under the same mode as the web hosting ie paid an amount set by the CA and it corresponds to a period of validity of the certificate SSL. When the certificate expires, it has to be renewed (via other payment), but the certificate becomes invalid and does not work for a secure encrypted connection.
