Why Choose Bluetooth for Your Headset Over Other Technology? - Image 1

When choosing headsets for office work or gaming, you have options on technology. You can pick Bluetooth technology or wireless fidelity or a connection. All of these have advantages and disadvantages. Let’s explore the advantages on using Bluetooth technology for your headsets.

  1. Setup -- When you go to create a Bluetooth connection between two devices, you don’t have to put forth much effort. The exact interface for doing so varies depending on your device, but you need only let one device scan to look for the other. Once the scanning device finds the other one, you initiate the connection and enter the personal identification number for the device. Often, the Bluetooth technology will automatically detect the PIN during the scanning. You don’t have to repair it even if you disconnect.

  2. Compatibility -- Bluetooth headsets are compatible with a number of devices. You can use them in an office at a personal desktop computer, on a laptop, with a tablet, with a phone or in a car. You also can use it at home with your gaming system. Your Bluetooth keyboard can work with your computer, tablet, phone or gaming system. However, you will not be able to pair it with everything. You will be limited on the number of devices.

  3. Less Hardware -- Bluetooth technology does not need a lot stuff to make it work. You don’t need a router, which is necessary to create a wireless fidelity connection in your home or office. With Bluetooth, the devices speak directly to one another. As long as your devices already have Bluetooth enabled, you do not need any additional hardware to connect them. If you do need extra hardware, it's in the form a small USB dongle that adds Bluetooth connectivity to your computer or device.

  4. Security -- When your headsets are using Bluetooth technology, you have the peace of mind knowing you are secure. Bluetooth has inherent security in two ways. The first is that it is not always broadcasting whereas Wi-FI is always sending signals. When you want to connect two devices via Bluetooth, you set them to be visible. This visibility is only necessary until the devices have been paired. Once paired, you can turn off visibility and keep the device closed to new connections. The second level of security is that in most cases, you will need to authorize the connection using a PIN or code to connect two devices. The third is the shorter range of Bluetooth devices, which means that users outside your home are unlikely to even see your Bluetooth device.

The disadvantages to using Bluetooth technology in your headsets are the limited range of use and lower bandwidth. Therefore, you want to make sure that if you are using Bluetooth headsets that you don’t need to be a great distance from the device you are pairing. Also, the greater bandwidth is not necessary in a headset, so this is a limitation for a phone or tablet. Those can use Wi-Fi if you need to upload pictures or videos, but you won’t be able to hear it through the headset.
