At IT Support London we know what our strengths are, and one of them is definitely not SEO which is why we have partnerships with a few preferred suppliers in this area. One of those suppliers is Expert SEO Bournemouth and we asked them to contribute a guest post to our blog as we thought it might shed some insight into the profession for some of the more traditional IT readers we have. Their chosen topic is all about how the role of an SEO agency has changed and evolved over the last couple of years. Read on to find out more about them or visit their website if you need quality and reliable Bournemouth SEO Services.

The job of an SEO agency has been changing for several years now. This is partly due to the different and highly publicized updates from Google. As an SEO agency I thankfully am slightly ahead of the game with all of these changes and we have adapted our techniques as and when these updates are required - our clients in Bournemouth and Poole have certainly benefited from this approach.

If you go back two years, then SEO was mainly focussed around a few tasks, which were mainly operational and are listed below:

  • Writing News and Press Releases
  • Optimizing Title Tags and Meta
  • On-Page and Internal Ranking Optimisation
  • Managing Google Adwords Campaigns
  • Linking Via Directories and News Websites
  • Client Reporting

Essentially it was pretty just a web marketing service. Over time the workload grew from month to month and the implementation of both web marketing and support quickly meant far more operational project management was required.

This was in addition to client meetings and strategic recommendations once each subsequent Google update hit the web.
When SEO is Not Enough

Now there used to be a very clear differentiation between what web marketing was and what SEO was whenever a project was sold into a client. Nowadays though, with the different roles and disciplines required to rank well in Google, the two services really have merged together.

For example, there was the Panda update which revised the requirements in terms of online content that was published. Websites with low quality content were penalized meaning many SEOs had to either up their game, or leave completely. Then there was the Penguin update which penalized abusive SEO techniques such as poor quality and huge amounts of back-links.

In fact, Google is increasingly demanding and is determined to offer up search results based more on customer behaviour and that of their friends. SEO no longer enough just to create back-links and content - you need to appeal to the desired customer to get the desired results - as a results it is necessary to broaden the range of web marketing activities even further to include the following tasks:

  • Social Network Activity
  • The Creation and Maintenance of Authoritative Blogs
  • A Presence in the Local and Online Market
  • Evolving the Features of the Website - for example, usability
  • Additional Content Avenues Such as Youtube, Facebook, Bing etc
  • Providing of Content More Targeted Towards Local Search
Following the development of this SEO evolution, or some might save revolution, our SEO team and staff have had to grow rapidly. They have also had to gain new communication skills, new tools and think of a broader web strategy in order to rank our client sites. These are the staff types and skills we currently have in-house:

  • SEO Staff
  • Community Manager
  • Web Editor
  • Technician
  • Manager
  • Project Manager

The web will never cease to evolve and Google will continue to lead the dance, so it’s fair to say that this evolution will continue at a fast pace.
