Nowadays, the popularity of ebooks is on the rise. Although there are still people who prefer to purchase the actual book at a bookstore, the novelty of being able to store literally hundreds of books in its digital format in a single gadget is beginning to get into the mainstream consciousness of bookworms. You just have to make sure that your Sydnee iPad charging station is ready when needed as downloading these digital files can take time and power from your tablet PC faster than you expect. But before you go out and get yourself one of those tablet PCs, you must first familiarize yourself with the many formats for ebooks as you would definitely encounter several of it.
Different Ebook Formats
The World of Ebook Formats - Image 1
  • EPUB
This is one of the more popular ebook formats that you will encounter. It was designed by the Open eBook Forum making it an open format. It was developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum and had the intention to be both a source file format as well as end-user format. It is accepted by several eBook software systems like EPUBReader Firefox add on, Quick Reader and Adobe Digital Editions. Tablet PCs that can readily access this format are iPad, iPhone, Sony Readers, Kobo Reader, and the Nook from Barnes and Noble.
  • AZW
This is a format that is exclusive to the Amazon Kindle gadget. It is similar to the MOBI format but uses high compression option for its files. Now that Kindle app is already available for use by other devices, this format file can now also be opened by other devices like smartphones, computers and tablet PCs as long as the Amazon app is installed and running.
  • MOBI
This was a format originally developed as a PalmDOC format extension. This format is usually utilized by the MobiPocket Reader. Its software is usually installed in several PDAs and smartphones. However, this format has several setbacks including un-scalable image sizes compared to its font size, different displays depending on what eBook reader you are using and there are no supports for nested tables.
  • PDF
This is one format that can be recognized by most tablet PCs . It was developed by Adobe primarily for its products. It can be opened thru Adobe Reader, Nitro PDF reader, PDF X-Change Viewer among others. The only setback of this is that it is usually formatted to reflect A4 or letter size documents.
  • LIT
This was developed as the Microsoft Reader software. It can be found on most Microsoft-based devices like PocketPC and Windows Mobile devices. However, this was already discontinued in 2011 so you cannot download any new content using the Kanex Thunderbolt cable anymore.
You would definitely encounter these formats when searching for the titles of your favorite books. Just make sure that your iPad charging station is on hand when the need arises.
