As its name signifies, an extender is used to widen the range of existing home network. They do this by boosting up the signal coming for router. This is what makes them a superb device to remove dead zones from your home or workplace. All you have to do is merely perform WiFi range extender setup in a precise manner. These devices extend the signal coverage for different purposes like web browsing, downloading or uploading, live streaming, online gaming, and much more.
It hardly matters that which router you are using as it can be used with any router i.e. it can be of Netgear, Linksys or TPlink. There are two modes in which it can work:
1. Extender Mode
2. Access Point Mode
Before getting started with new extender setup, here are a few things you need to know about. When you buy a device, it comes with the following components:
· A power adapter
· An Ethernet cable
· A stand
Also, you will notice LEDs on it. These lights show the status of connectivity.

Guide to Netgear WiFi Extender Setup
1. Install it in Extender Mode
When you use it in extender mode, it transmits incoming signal of main access point again and again. Here are the steps given below:
Step-1: Place it and turn it on
Place your device and home router as close as possible. Closeness is mandatory only during Netgear Extender Setup. Plug it into a socket and let it turn on. In case it doesn’t enable, press the Power On/off button once.
Step-2: Connect to a WiFi network
In order to increase the range of Internet connectivity, you need to connect it to an available WiFi net. There are two methods to do so:
· Web browser setup
On your desktop or smartphone, find and connect to a net. Once done, you will see LED lights on it. Next, launch an Internet browser and visit mywifiext website. Doing so will take you to the page of WiFi extender setup. Click on this button.
Post that, type default login details. Choose a system you want to connect to and hit next. Enter SSID and passcode for your device and click Next once again.
A list of available WiFi networks will appear in front of you. Select the extended network and click on Continue button. Finally, click on Finish button to complete the extender setup.
Now, you can turn it off by unplugging it and place it midway between dead spots and router. Connect your PC or other devices to the extended network.

· WPS method
Abbreviated as WPS, WiFi Protected Setup allows you to connect with a safe and secure network without entering the SSID and passcode.
To get started, long press WPS button of range expander. After a couple of minutes, press WPS button of main access point or router. You will see the LED light on it.
After that, unplug it and place it at a new location to check if you are getting signals or not. Turn it on once again and let its LED light becomes solid green. Keep moving it until you get the fast Internet connection. On your WiFi device, find and connect with the new extended network.
Step-3: Connect an Ethernet-enabled device
As soon as you carefully complete the step-2, use an Ethernet cable and connect a wired device to it. Then it can broadcast signals in every corner of house and office, even in garden.
2. Install it in Access Point Mode
When used in this mode, it makes a new WiFi hotspot with the help of an Ethernet connection. To perform wireless extender setup, plug it in a socket and turn it on. Open a web browser and go to Netgear genie setup page. Click on Next button. Follow the instructions given on the page and set up your device.
