DRaaS- A Necessary Back Up Service For Business Enterprises - Image 1
DRaaS is Disaster Recovery as a Service. It is a very important and a vital service of recovery of servers. Servers, whether virtual or physical, always run the risk of failures. These failures of servers, which may be virtual or physical servers, can be due to man made causes or natural catastrophe. These human or natural errors can completely stop the functioning of the servers, thus paralysing all the web sites and other services hosted by them. DRaaS provides suitable and effective functional and hosting back up to such servers, under such circumstances.

Disaster Recovery as a Service, is a back up service model in a Cloud computing environment. DRaaS uses resources from Cloud for providing protection to the applications and data from damages and disturbances caused by either natural or man-made disaster. DRaaS also provides its clients an effective back up for total systems to allow its client to continue its business operations, even in case of failures of systems.

DRaaS or Disaster Recovery as a Service mainly involves making replicas and hosting of all servers, those may be of virtual or physical, in nature, by a third party. This replication and hosting of all servers, by a third party, is to provide fail overs to all such failed servers, in case of functional or system failure. This server failures can be because of any natural disaster or some man made errors. This fail over is done by the services of Disaster Recovery as a Service.

How DRaaS is provided for fail overs?

A third party vendor provides fail overs to a cloud computing environment. All requirements and expectations, related to DRaaS, are always documented in an SLA, or a Service Level Agreement. This service of DRaaS is provided by the third party vendor, either through a service contract with its clients, or on the basis of pay per use. The client, or the business enterprise is more likely to suffer from the direct and instant effects of damages caused by disaster, in case of an actual disaster taking place. The off site vendor is not expected to suffer that much from real disasters, whether natural or man made. This allows the DRaaS service provider to bring into action the plan for Disaster Recovery. This disaster recovery plan is equally effective even in case of worst disaster scenario. This helps the affected business enterprise even in case of near total or total shut down, because of the damages caused by the disaster.

Advantages of Disaster Recovery as a Service-

The Disaster Recovery as a Service, provides an effective service to restore the lost services in disasters, for its users, as fast as possible. The time taken to return the applications to production again, is reduced very considerably by DRaaS. This is simply because the lost data needs not be restored over the internet, in DRaaS.

The Disaster Recovery as a Service is extremely useful in disaster recovery and fail overs, especially for small and medium size business enterprises. These enterprises usually do not have the essential expertise for provisioning, configuring and testing an effective plan for disaster recovery, in case of unforeseen and unexpected disastrous damages. Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) provides help in such cases, as the clients do not need to invest money in building and maintaining its own, off site disaster recovery mechanism, to counter the situation in disasters damage control.

Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) also fails over processing to the Cloud. Any organisation using DRaaS can continue to work, even during a disaster. The notices for fail overs can be both automated or manual, in DRaaS. The Disaster Recovery as a Service operations continues to be in effect, until the Information Technology unit repairs the damages in enterprise premises and restores normal operations.

DRaaS is a multisite functioning as it uses a Cloud computing environment. It replicates the resources to number of different sites, that guarantees continuous back up, in case of unavailability of one, or more than one sites. DRaaS is capable of replicating any environment and provides a user-friendly costing to its users.
