Possible violation of 6,777 patients stolen data after the desktop without encryption in Albany

Desktop unencrypted Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital ( PPMH ) held Albany , Georgia has been found wanting. Approximately 6,777 patients are vulnerable after the incident to the misuse of data. Information such as patients' names , dates of birth , addresses , appointments were available services , names of doctors, diagnoses , and social security numbers , on the desktop . Computer was password protected .
Affected patients were seen between May 2010 and October 2013. PPMH sent notification of the incident and an online copy. He offered one year of credit monitoring for affected patients .
PPMH also report the incident to the Department of the Albany Police , but they were not sure about the lost or stolen computer. She said : " We deeply regret any concern and inconvenience this has caused our patients have reviewed and improved our security policies and procedures and are reinforced with all employees the importance of dealing with patient information carefully , so something is happening the . avoid for the future. "

PPMH hired computer forensic firms to examine the wound . Unencrypted computer are common in stories of data breaches to security is high risk . Thus , consideration of possible abuse computer without encryption involved, it is advisable to get the best security .
