The Web browser is a key tool to connect you to Internet - Accessing any information/resources from the World Wide Web! Without the Web browser you cannot surf the internet.

You can find any information that you need, from the smallest thing like the meaning of a word, phrase, abbreviation, news, travel, food, music and media resources such as gmail, youtube, facebook etc.

The main web browsers include Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera. The key difference between the browsers is the interface and presentation of a web page.

In this tutorial guide we will cover the following:
  1. How to locate the browser when you switch on your computer;
  2. Quick Tips to use the Browser- Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox.
  3. How to search for information/resource in the World Wide Web.

1) How to locate the browser when you switched on your computer:

Usually there is a default browser installed in the computer. There are 2 methods to locate your browser.

One method is to click on Start, review the browsers listed and click on the desired browser, as shown in the diagram.

Second method is to check if there are Browser Shortcut Links created in your desktop as shown below, and double click on the desired browser you want to use.

2) Quick Tips to use the Browser - Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox

  • Address Bar: To go to a website.
  • Favorites /Bookmarks: To bookmark a webpage so as to allow user to quickly return to the page or frequent usage of the webpage.
  • New tab: To allow you to view multiple web pages.

How to access the website to download the browser?

Open up the default browser that is installed in your computer. You can use the search engines in the web to download the desired browser. Refer to the next topic on how to search the internet.


3) How to search for information/resource in the world wide web?

There are many web search engines available. The most popular used search engine is Google Search.

For a beginner, you could start off with the default browser that is already installed in your computer to get familiar with internet.

  1. Use the address bar to go directly to the webpage;
  2. Use the Favorite/Bookmark function to bookmark your frequently visit webpage and Add new tab to view multiple webpages;
  3. Most importantly accessing any information/resources through the Google search engine, using key word search.
