Your Stylish Work Gadget, the iPad

You don’t have to dock your iPad on a USB 3.0 docking station to realize that it can be valuable tool for work. Here are some tips to follow to maximize the iPad as a productivity device.
Your Stylish Work Gadget, the iPad - Image 1
Email
The iPad has a built in Mail app that supports web-based email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, and other POP/IMAP email accounts. To setup these services in your iPad, just follow the steps to configure email using Apple’s online assistant. If your company uses Lotus Notes, you can download the Lotus Notes Traveler app from Apple’s App Store. You can also ask the help of your IT department to sync your company’s email clients with your iPad.
Scheduling
Lotus Notes Traveler also has a calendar that offers ample support for your calendar needs. Other iPad users have also found Google Calendar very useful. Aside from that, you have the option to use the iPad’s built-in calendar program as well. For those who want to manage multiple calendars, apps such as CalenGoo and Readdle Calendars are popular options. Both apps can be purchased for $6.99 each from the App Store.
Document Creation and Viewing

To create word documents, spreadsheets, and presentation files, you can purchase Apple’s apps - Pages, Numbers, and Keynote - but these are to be downloaded and installed separately. That’s pretty much the disadvantage of Apple productivity apps - Each app has to be installed separately. This means that the apps for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and others, have to be installed one at a time. This will be a test of patience for iPad owners who do not want to wait.

But then, there are alternative all-in-one apps, including word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation apps that iPad owners can download as a bundle. A prime example would be QuickOffice Pro. For only $19.99, QuickOffice Pro allows you to make and edit documents, make presentations, and use spreadsheets.

A much cheaper option would be just to have a document viewer app and a simple note taking app or program. For this, all you have to install in your iPad is the GoodReader app ($1) and Evernote (free).
File Saving

By this, we mean cloud storage drives that allow your iPad to access files you saved originally from your laptop or office desktop. With cloud storage, you can easily download these files with your iPad and use them personally, share them with your contacts or present them to clients. The difference of course between accessing cloud drive files from your laptop and your iPad is that the former will never be as sleek or as stylish as the latter. Why let everyone look at your files from a laptop when you can have them look at your iPad?

Finally, if you plan to work using your iPad for a few hours, make sure you use your USB 3.0 docking station stand so it won’t run out of power.
