I'm not curious

How I made $1500 with a single-domain registration-for $2.00

Around three years ago, I was just venturing into the world of SEO. As a part of my training, we had to use Google Keywords. At that point of time, a certain Hollywood actor was in prominence. Using the Google keywords tool, I soon realized that a number of keywords based on the actor had a lot of competition. As I scrolled through the pages of keywords, I soon realized that people were searching for his name with a wrong spelling.
As these keywords had very low competition, I checked around for one or two and found out that there were no websites with the incorrect spelling.
I was then introduced to the concept of Black Friday discounts. Using these discounts, I made a domain registration for a misspelt name of the actor. Since all I paid for it was 2 US dollars, I was extremely thrilled with my acquisition.
Next, I started working on setting up the website. For this, I turned back to the Google Keywords tool and picked up around three more low competition keywords to be included in my site. Next, using a free WordPress template, I created an extremely basic website.
My website had the following tabs: There was a homepage dedicated to the actor that mentioned all his movies till date. It also mentioned his date of birth and information about his wife and their kids. The next tab was dedicated to photos. Here I picked up a number of free photos of the actor, scenes from his latest movies as well as photos from brands he endorsed and made a gallery.
The next tab was the video section. This section had short clips from the actor’s earliest movies, his biggest money spinners as well as trailers of his upcoming features. However, by the time I finished this, I realized that it was taking a lot of my time. So, all I did was register for a Google AdSense account and monetized the website with some advertisements and submitted the website to be indexed by Google.
This was three years ago. In that period, I moved on and focused more on the SEO aspect and helping others with their domain registration. Just by chance, I logged into the site the other day and realized that this impulse sale had earned me 1500 US Dollars in advertising revenue.
So how did this happen?
  • The first reason was that the domain had aged. Over time, as any domain ages, it manages to gain some level of respectability with Google. Ever since I had learned about SEO, I had only used white-hat practices.

  • The second aspect was the use of low competition keywords. By using a misspelling of the actor’s name, I was able to capture visitors who would often mistype the name. Believe it or not but that is a very common occurrence.

  • Finally, by using a Google AdSense account, the advertisements posted on my website were relevant to the theme of the website, which is exactly what Google looks for.

So as you can see, any person can make money with their domain registration (I recommend that you use this Danish "UnoEuro domæneregistrering" service provider for example). All they need is to know how to make the correct choices initially.
