If you have used a cell phone then certainly you might have experience a really frustrating problem known as bad cell phone signal. Bad signals can cause several problems such as call drops, disturbance and noise during a call, difficulty hearing the person on the other side, terrible mobile internet speed, connection timeouts, and a really poor battery life. You certainly don’t want all these problems in your life and would like to actually use the highly futuristic Smartphone technology while relaxing inside your home, or at important business meetings, or simply use it for some entertainment while on a camping trip and using it to call or message in case of any emergency. We all wish for ideal things but in reality we have to face a lot of challenge. You might often find yourself in a network dead zone or signal black spot. There are several reasons why a certain location suffers from poor signal connectivity.

1. Geography
The number one cause for dead zones and black spots is the terrain geography. Radio waves and light wave react in the same way when faced with obstructions and create shadows. Signal shadows are created when radio waves disperse after hitting an obstruction and work their way around it. However, the amount of radio waves that could work around totally depends on the distance from the nearest cell tower.

2. Non Geographical Obstructions

Even if you do not have any physical surroundings such as mountains and rivers to block the radio waves there are several other surrounding elements that can wane the signal from the cell phone tower creating a dead zone. Buildings and trees can act as another immovable obstruction which can easily block all the signals from the cell phone towers. You can take permission from the horticultural department to clear off the trees that block your signal, but the request is not granted in every case and deforestation and cutting down trees is a crime in several states.

3. In Building Connectivity

When you do not receive a good cell phone signal outside, there’s hardly a chance that you will get a signal when you’re inside your homes, office or any other building. Signal strength is also a problem in underground parking lots. The building materials used are often very dense and do now allow such low frequency waves to easily penetrate. You cannot choose your building materials based on the cell phone signal’s penetration. The various building materials such as window insulation, metal roofing and foil insulation on roofs, concrete and bricks, metallic doors and the other wiring and plumbing are just few of the various components used in a building that can very well obstruct your cell phone signals.

All the above mentioned problems can be solved in several ways. You can either change your mobile service carrier, install a Femtocell which your network carrier may or may not sell and lastly you can install a cell phone signal booster. By spending just a few hundred dollars you can save a lot of pain and frustration. Simply install a cell phone signal booster to solve all the problems such as poor voice quality, dropped calls, mobile internet speed etc. An external antenna is placed in the area where the signal strength is the highest or simply facing the signal tower and then it sends the signal to an amplifier unit to repeat the signal and boost it. The signal is then made available for use via the internal antenna. All of these components are connected together by a low loss cable.

How Install Signal Amplifiers

Installing an amplifier is pretty simple; you need to fix the external antenna which clamps to any surface. For best results, place the amplifier where it is protected by the outside weather. This can be done simply by keeping it inside the house where it is connected through a coaxial low loss cable to the external antenna. The internal antenna is usually placed in a location that provides signal to most of the areas in your house. Such places can be the central hall or living room area where you spend the maximum time when you’re home. Make sure that when placing the internal antenna it is placed at least 7 feet above the ground to relay the signal to all areas of the house.

Most times the problem starts with the question of where to place the external antenna or how to find the place with the strongest signal. This can also be simply done with a device known as a patch chord through which you can directly connect your phone to the external antenna. You simply walk around the house with your phone attach to the external antenna and place the antenna at the spot with the maximum signal strength. You can also visit the websites of signal booster manufacturers like Wilson Amplifiers and others for more information about the various types of signal amplifiers.

This article is very informative, however, it does not talk about vehicle cell phone boosters. I bought one of these and it has provided 4-5 bars on my phone in places I had none: https://www.signalbooster.com/products/surecall-fusion2go-max-vehicle-cell-phone-signal-booster-us-can
