LG's Latest Smartphone Comparison: Optimus F5 versus Optimus F7

LG announced its plans to release mid-range smartphones in its F series - the LG Optimus F5 and the LG Optimus F7 - at the Mobile World Congress 2013 event. These two smartphones are aimed at the mid-range users who are looking on crossing from 3G to 4G LTE. With Android as its OS, these mid-tier devices bring in better power and faster performance.

Although both devices look similar in their design and structure, they certainly are equally decent looking. Nevertheless, neither phone is going to win any awards for attractive design or structure anytime soon.

This is, perhaps, the right time to talk in detail about LG Optimus F5 and LG Optimus F7 smartphones’ specifications:

Display:

The LG Optimus F7 comes with a larger 4.7 IPS screen with clear and sharp display. This phone houses a rather thin and long Home Button sandwiched in-between menu and back buttons. There is a cool hexagonal pattern adorning the Smartphone’s back panel that is a nice change from the usual boring plain panels on most smartphones. Thanks to this intricate pattern, your fingerprints don’t show up too clearly as well.

The LG Optimus F5, on the other hand, comes with a 4.3 inch IPS screen, also boasting of vibrant and brilliant display. Similar to the F7, Optimus F5 comes with a diamond pattern on the back panel that prevents it from accumulating fingerprint smudges.

The display resolution of F5 is 540 X 960 pixels whereas F7 comes with 20 X 1280 image resolution. Considering the pixel density of 256 in F5 and 312 in F7, both these smartphones do justice to images and videos. Apart from the good pixel density, both smartphones have capacitive Multi-touch touch screen.

The plastic panel and case look surprisingly class. Beyond the fashion statement there is a more important reason behind the plastic back panel. This panel is a necessity because it can be removed to access the smartphone battery.

Battery:

The LG Optimus F5 and Optimus F7 house a 2150mAh battery and 2540mAh battery respectively giving you enough juice to last the whole day. Even with such specifications and battery, neither of these smartphones seems to add any girth or weight to the device.

Hardware:

The smaller model comes with a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor while the bigger model brings on board a 1.5 GHz dual core processor. Both these smartphones are powerful as they bring on decent horsepower to boost them properly. Besides the powerful processor, both these phones come with a built-in storage of 8GB with an option to expand the same to up to 32GB with the help of a microSD card slot.

You also get system memory of 1024MB RAM in F5 and 2048 RAM in F7 making it one of the best in the market.

Operating System:

Both Optimus F5 and Optimus F7 are powered by Android Jelly Bean (4.1.2).

Camera:

The smaller model F5 has a 5 mega pixel backend camera and a 1.3 MP front facing camera that helps in video chatting. The bigger model F7, on the other hand, has an 8MP back facing sensor and a 1.3MP front facing camera. LED flash, auto-focus, geo-tagging and digital zoom features are available in F7 but are missing in F5. Instead both these smartphones come with camcorder facility.

Connectivity:

Both LG Optimus F5 and Optimus F7 are Bluetooth, LTE and Wi-Fi enabled. In addition to this, both smartphones also come with USB 2.0 card slots, 3.5mm headphone connector slot, and a microUSB charging connector slot.

Final Say:

Both Optimus F5 and Optimus F7 lack high-quality front facing camera and sufficient internal memory. When you are able to overlook these simple discrepancies, both phones might be a good bet for those looking for devices that go beyond 3G capability. Both phones bring on some good specifications and features but a lot will depend on their price as well. As usual there is no final word on the release date or the price of these smartphones. While the price is still a mystery, the sleek design and class look of these phones have spiked interest among many prospective buyers. In addition to the design of the device, solid specs and good battery life will certainly find many takers and will prove to be a crowd pleaser once these smartphones hit the stores.
