Proper and Discrete Reason - There should be a convincing reason behind creating CTA element. Generally CTA is a part of campaign and it is designed with a specific purpose. Some CTA are purely designed for pulling traffic towards your website whereas some of designed to create awareness about new product being launched in the market. Without definite aim, your CTA might not perform well or create confusion in the minds of your visitors.

Catchy Headlines - CTA must have attractive headline despite of the place where it is being displayed - in email, blog or on website content. User must notice CTA when he lands on the page otherwise user might just leave the page without even taking note of the action to perform. Headlines can be made more enticing or teasing so that user is compelled to read further and notice CTA and click on it. At the same time headlines must be grammatically correct and interesting. Generally people tend to find such mistakes very fast and they might choose to leave.

Use Correct Action Verb - Action verb is important as it asks the visitor to perform the action you want. Some examples of action verbs are - register, download, click here, join us etc. Your visitors are clear about what to expect after clicking on the CTA elements so they are not surprised. So bounce rate of the landing pages will also be lower. High bounce rate for your landing pages means you are using black hat trick which is not supposed to be good at all.

Contrast Color or Stand-out image - People tend to click on the button or image that look completely contrast or stand-out from rest of the page content. Use this very nature and create your CTA’s with different color or high contrast image. It should grab visitor’s attention than anything else on the page and is tempted to take the action. At the same time the aesthetics of the page or website design should not get harmed. CTA and other page content should complement each other. Placement of CTA should preferably done on the right hand column before the page fold. This place is easily accessible and visible too.

After you have designed and placed your CTA, testing is required to check its effectiveness. You can try A/B testing methods to find the perfect combination of color, place, text for your CTA.
