Timely Business Upgrades: When Should You Update your Tech Devices? - Image 1
When you own a business, it's easy to become dependent on your tech devices. With new smartphones, tablets, all-in-one computers and laptops being released on what seems like a monthly basis, it is not practical to upgrade your devices every time you see a commercial about how the new $500 phone can better suit your business needs. While you do want to get the most out of your tech devices and you can't reasonably invest in an upgrade on a monthly basis, there will come a time when upgrades are both appropriate and recommended by technology experts. Here are four scenarios where an upgrade would be the best solution:
The World Has Outgrown Your Smartphone Device
While cellphone manufacturers have a genius marketing team that's sole job is to push consumers to buy a new model, the truth of the matter is there is very little difference between a smartphone model and the one preceding it. There may be a new design and a few tweaks in text style and features, but you're not going to feel like your model isn't sufficient is you are happy with your phone.
While this is true, there will come a time where new technologies will make your smartphone obsolete. As the world outgrows the device and you become unable to download apps that you need for business on-the-go, it would behoove your to take advantage of that upgrade you have through your provider so that you have the latest operating system capable of running the latest business apps.
When New Software Constitutes a Desktop Upgrade
When a computer doesn't run as fast as it once did, it is not time to recycle the unit and buy a new one right away. It is possible that your business desktop just needs a tune-up or repair from a remote tech support service professional like iTOK. Tune-ups and repairs do not change a system's capabilities and specifications.
If you are installing a new customer relationship management software or another integrated tool to streamline business operations, you could find that your outdated hardware simply cannot handle the workload. When installations of a new versions of business software programs are affecting the performance of your computer, it is time for an upgrade. Failing to buy a new computer could cost you in customer satisfaction and lost productivity.
Upgrading Telephone Systems When They Leave a Bad Impression
More and more customers are using the Internet to contact businesses but that doesn't mean that your phone systems aren't important. The telephone is still the preferred method of contact when customers want quick answers. If problems arise and you find that customers are being disconnected or phones are not ringing, it is time to assess whether or not an upgrade is necessary. It could be the phone system or it could possibly be an unreliable provider.
All-In-One Copiers That Are Network Ready
Businesses need fully functional printers, but if you have a single function device you should consider investing in a full-feature device that prints, scans, copies and even faxes. Having to buy different devices for each purpose can be expensive and will require a lot of space you don't have. If you opt to buy a network-ready printer and copier, you can make sending, receiving, saving and printing documents much easier across a network.

While tech devices can last a long time, they will eventually die. Using an archaic device just because it still functions could be compromising productivity and costing you money. It is important to consider all solutions before upgrading, but if repair is not a viable option it is best to start shopping for new upgrades.
