We’re looking for an experienced developer to join The Atlantic’sRevenue Team, a new part of the Product Team focused on the hardest problem on the Internet: how do we fund journalism in ways that provide aworld-class reader experience?

We’re building a wide variety offrameworks, platforms, products and toolsthat empower our marketing and advertising operations. You can read about two of our recent initiatives on our product blog.

You are an experienced web developer and solid communicator with an interest in journalism and the media business.

You’re well versed in the modern front-end: ES6, SCSS, good semantic markup, and the capabilities of the browser.

Above all, you’re a creative problem solver: able to devise and deliver practical, maintainable software that addresses Atlantic staffers’ and readers’ needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

Contribute to our growing HTML, CSS, JavaScript (with some Node and Python) codebase Advance the state of the art around performance, build tooling, or unit testing. Collaborate with advertising and consumer marketing teams to figure out what they need and what we should build to help them Implement and deploy new features and platforms for and where they will be viewed by millions of people Mentor junior developers Requirements:

Can scope, architect, build and maintain complex responsive sites, libraries and applications in HTML, CSS (SASS), and JavaScript (ES6+) without a framework Strong technical and non-technical communication skills Comfortable with Git for version control Ready to learn and apply new technologies as needed (Express, Django) We welcome out-of-town applicants willing to relocate to the DC metro area for full time on site work, but are currently unable to sponsor applicants unauthorized to work in the United States.
