PhD Internship - Autonomous wireless systems with AI/ML

Multiple full-time (6 - 12 months) industrial internship positions are available at Nokia Bell Labs in Belgium. The selection starts from soon until the positions are filled. Ph.D. students or graduates with distinctions in electrical and computer engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics are encouraged to apply. The accepted candidates will work on cutting edge research at the intersection of wireless systems and artificial intelligence, machine learning for control and optimization, Industrial IoT sensing and communication, ambient sensing, and ubiquitous wireless communication. We are interested to design autonomous wireless systems and understand fundamental limitations of machine learning techniques. The work is closely aligned with laboratory efforts in advanced simulations and prototyping. The work combines analytical and experimental skills. Above all, the applicants must be self-motivated to learn quickly and work effectively on challenging research problems. The output of the work is expected to be captured in technical documentation, journal/conference publications and patents.


Requirements that will be evaluated are:


Solid mathematical background and knowledge of programming languages and software tools (e.g., Matlab, NS-3) is required.
Laboratory experience with prototyping/testbeds: Python, Java, C, LEDE/OpenWRT, emulation with ns-3 and MATLAB.


Key qualifications for the role: (Skills/Knowledge)

Enrolled student in computer science or electrical engineering with excellent computer programming skills
Experience with USRP/LabView or GNU Radio packages
Experience in NS-3/C/Java/JavaScript/Matlab/HTML programming
Excellent knowledge of Wi-Fi system and network protocols is must
