POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Metrology Technician performs a variety of duties and multiple uses of different skillsets. Technicians are required to follow detailed instructions and drawings, in the inspection of tooling fixtures, precision weldments, machined surfaces and fly-away aerospace parts. Equipment maintenance, drawing interpretation, computational analysis and CAD/CAM software navigation are common tasks.

The following essential job functions are performed as a Metrology Technician:

Attention to detail and quality is required
Understand and use the basic principles of linear and geometric dimensional metrology. Topics include basic measuring instruments; mechanical, electronic, pneumatic, and optical measuring instruments; quality data acquisition systems; coordinate measuring machines; attribute gauging, geometric functional gauging; surface integrity determination; and geometric profile measurement.
Ability to read and understand blue-prints and/or CAD models
Performs preventive maintenance on machines and facilities including daily inspections, weekly maintenance, and annual maintenance
Receives and carries out directions from designated Supervisors and Production Leads
Must be able to understand and comply with Safety Practices
Complies with 5S, AS9100 and Nadcap Standards and Practices
Identifies and obtains equipment, tools and materials needed to properly perform job function
Sets up scaffolding and safety barriers under direction
Properly executes Hazardous Material Disposal activities
Performs preventive maintenance on machines and facilities as required
Knowledge of common hand tools and demonstrated mechanical capabilities
Performs on the job training, AS9100, Nadcap training and other training as required
Performs other duties as assigned
Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. The incumbent shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS

MUST BE U.S. CITIZEN OR LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT FOR THIS POSITION.

Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED required, additional CAD-based experience is preferred
Two year technical degree preferred
Experience with sensitive, calibrated equipment is preferred
Must have general computer competency
Must have effective verbal and written communication skills

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES

Job duties may include one or more of the following:

Work in a quality capacity to an auditable level of consistency
Utilize several sophisticated software programs to allow comprehensive analysis of measurement data for customers. Types of analysis may include: Best Fit Analysis of point data to surface models, Tool & Part Comparisons to engineering CAD Models/Datasets, 5-axis Milling machine Alignment (volumetric compensation, accuracy and repeatability), and Composite Lay-up Stock Analysis.
Advanced Assembly Procedures, will include detailed hardware installation, plus in-process and final assembly of a wide variety of tooling, parts, and models.
Inspects visually or checks a few points of small parts with acceptance limits clearly defined or reference samples furnished.
Ability to read and understand blue-prints and/or CAD models
Janicki Certified, Overhead Crane, Forklift and Manlift Operation (as separate Certifications)
Operation of Pneumatic and Power tools, drills, grinders, saws, impact drivers, sanders, etc.
Operation of Bench Power Tools, - Horizontal/Vertical Bandsaw, Bench Grinder, drill press, vertical mill/lathe, drill bit sharpener, scissors sharpener, table saw, miter saw. etc.
Perform aerospace tool finishing utilizing sanding, grinding of exacting tolerances on flat surfaces and compound curves as well as doing detailed patch/repairs on the same
Understanding of mill gauging procedures
Prepare surfaces and apply filled resins or comparable for repairs

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to perform repetitive tasks for an entire shift. Must be able to sit, stand, or crouch down for extended periods. Must be able to climb ladders and work platforms. Exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and paint fumes. Must be able to work under hot and cold conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE), safety glasses and respirator will be required. Must be comfortable working within confined spaces and at various heights.

Must be able to pass drug test.
